Daughter, sister, wife, mother, stepmother, aunt, Mimi, great-grandma, friend – these are all the roles cherished by Luna Kathleen Clark Linford Barton Horne, who passed away peacefully at home on February 25, 2022, at the age of 81, surrounded by her loved ones.

Kathy was a California girl born on October 10, 1940 in San Marino to C. Menzies “Bill” and Estelle Jackson Clark. She and her older brother John Michael were adventurers and loved the outdoors, sailing, swimming, and surfing. Because of her vibrancy and natural beauty, Max Factor personally selected her to model for his cosmetics line when she was 16.

After graduating from San Marino High School, she ventured out of state to attend nursing school at the University of Utah, where she earned a BSN. It was here that she met and married H.G. Linford. Together, they had two wonderful children, Scott and Jill, who were her pride and joy.

As a Registered Nurse, she started working in Labor and Delivery at Cottonwood Hospital in 1963. She loved working with and helping young mothers with their newborns and reveled in the joy of bringing new life into the world. Her career in nursing expanded as she became the first quality care Nursing Director for UPRO in the state of Utah and IHC. She also served as the Director of Nursing for short-stay surgery at Doxey-Hatch Medical Center.

Kathy grew to love music, skiing, scuba diving, hiking, playing tennis and anything that let her be outside enjoying nature to its fullest–even skydiving! She followed in her mother’s footsteps with her passion for gardening, gourmet cooking and entertaining. One of her greatest joys was serving as a master gardener on the Salt Lake Temple grounds.

She developed a deep love and faith in her Savior Jesus Christ. This relationship helped to deepen her love for her patients, and family, and to cultivate her love of service, drawing upon inspiration and prayer to help her make decisions throughout her career. She turned to the Lord frequently through many difficult trials in her life, including losing her second husband, Dr. Richard G. Barton, when he passed away of heart failure in May 1996. Her love for life was rekindled when she married Dr. Robert H. Horne, on March 4, 1999. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Robert tenderly cared for Kathy as her health deteriorated over the last several years and was faithfully by her side as she took her last breath.

Kathy is survived by her husband Robert, her children Scott Linford (Trisa) and Jill Williams (David); grandchildren Tate, Alyssa, Sarah and Colin Linford, Taylor and Abigail Williams; her brother John Michael (Dixie Daryl Badger) Clark, three nieces and 1 nephew. She is preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 5, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the Glacial Park Ward Chapel, 2675 Mt. Jordan Road, Sandy, Utah.
