Kathleen Griffis Maxfield, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and faithful servant of the Lord, passed away on January 18, 2026.
Kathleen was born on May 18, 1950, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Edwin LeRoy Griffis and Beverly June Smart. She was raised in Utah and attended Hillcrest High School in Sandy, Utah.
Kathleen met the love of her life, Roland Maxfield, while attending a church activity. Their relationship grew through shared faith and devotion, and they were later married and sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on January 18, 1974.
Kathleen spent most of her working within her home as a mother and homemaker, however she did work as a key punch operator for Tesco as well as an extended care teacher at Challenger School.
Kathleen was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her life. She served faithfully in many callings, including Relief Society President, Primary President, Primary Teacher, Primary Secretary, and Librarian. Her quiet strength, dedication, and love for children and families were evident in every role she fulfilled.
Kathleen enjoyed making afghan blankets, doing needlework, sewing, and going fishing. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, Edwin LeRoy Griffis; her mother, Beverly June Smart; and her sister, Janet Cordova.
Kathleen is survived by her loving husband, Roland Maxfield; her sons, Jason (Janna) Maxfield and Eric (Lisa) Maxfield; and her cherished grandchildren, Harmony, Sariah, Gage, and Tamyah Maxfield.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Alta Ward, located at 1050 E 10600 S, Sandy, Utah. A viewing will be held prior to the service from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Interment will take place at Larkin Sunset Gardens in Sandy.
Kathleen will be remembered for her unwavering faith, gentle kindness, and deep love for her family. Her life was a testament to service, devotion, and enduring love, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Kathy became a dear friend when we were visiting sisters years ago. I got to learn what a kind and loving person she was. My condolences to her husband and family.
