Kay J Dickerson, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away surrounded by family on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at the age of 87. Born to John and Rhoda Dickerson in American Fork, Utah and lived most of his childhood in Pocatello, Idaho. Kay is preceded in death by his wife, Ila, parents, seven brothers, and two sisters. He is survived by his brother Ken and sister-in-law Earlene.
In 1957, Kay married the love of his life, Ila Jean Walker. They were later sealed in the temple on February 25, 1959. They were blessed with four children: Jan (Dave) Clough, Bryan (Tammie) Dickerson, Sheri (John) Dennison, and Jill (Greg) Goold. Kay’s legacy continues through his 10 grandchildren, their spouses, and 21 great-grandchildren, all of whom he adored. He was happiest when surrounded by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A graduate of Brigham Young University with a degree in engineering, Kay had a long and fulfilling career with Hercules until his retirement. Never one to remain idle, he also dedicated his time and talents to his community, managing and caring for the local swimming pool (White Towers), with the White City Township, and serving as a temple worker.
Kay was a man of many skills and passions. It seemed that there wasn’t anything he couldn’t do. He earned his small engine pilot license and had a love for adventure, including camping, golfing, or playing softball. He was a very talented woodworker and was often found whittling or carving when he wasn’t out building larger projects in his shop.
He loved to bake birthday cakes, make Christmas candy, was an avid Dutch oven cook, and made the best homemade ice cream. Kay had a special love for frozen treats and never passed up a bowl of ice cream or a popsicle and always shared generously with his family. His kindness, generosity, and hardworking nature left an enduring impact on his family and community.
Though he will be deeply missed, his influence will live on through the countless lives he touched.
We sincerely thank all those that helped to care for Kay over the last several years, and especially the last several weeks. It has been a great blessing, and he has been surrounded by love.
A viewing will be held Sunday evening February 9, 2025 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary 1950 E 10600 S, Sandy, Utah 84094 and Monday morning February 10, 2025 from 9:00 - 9:45 AM at the same location. Our deepest condolences to the Dickerson Family at the loss of Kay, May your love and wonderful memories carry you during this tender time. He will be sorely missed.
When my family moved into the ward in 1972 I found out they were having softball practice. So I joined them. I was surprised at how Kay could place the ball wherever he wanted to. We played a lot of church games together. He was also a good basketball player. We practiced a number of times in our ward. He was a good outside shooter. When he was the President of the White Tower Swimming Club he was very consciences of what the members wanted. He had some great life guards and they even had a swim team and that my daughter Nicole participated in. He was the best president of the club we ever had. Will miss his great knowledge of the scriptures. A great man
I'm sorry to hear of Kays passing, I worked with him for many years at Hercules/ATK and he was a wonderful person to work with or for. He treated everyone respectfully. We have lost a great saint and I'm thankful for my association with Kay. Dennis Bird
We loved Kay. He was one of the best men we knew. We always enjoyed his lessons and talks. He understood the gospel and applied it in his life. He and Ila were two very special people. I'm sure they are having a wonderful reunion.
We love you
