Listen to Obituary
On Sunday, May 11, 2025, I lost my best friend, my heart, my person, while he was doing one of the things he loved – trail running/hiking by our home. Kevin Michael Bruder, age 56, born in Bloomington, Illinois. We met at Iowa State University our sophomore year. Married on May 25, 1991, and went on to have four beautiful children. – Susan Bruder
Kevin was a devoted husband, loving father, doting papa, cherished son and beloved brother. He was a devout Catholic and parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. He was a man who lived his everyday life exemplifying his faith.
Kevin’s greatest joy was spending time with his family and loved ones. He loved spending time outdoors with his family. He loved sports, especially basketball and baseball. He was a big Cardinals baseball fan and enjoyed catching a few March Madness games every year with his dad, brother, and son Joel. He was proud to be a sports dad, always making time to be at soccer games for both Allison and Emily, basketball and football for Joel, and hockey for Chris. He would do whatever he could to help his kids succeed at their goals and dreams. He enjoyed going to activities with his wife, Susan, at the Cottonwood Country Club and going on hikes together near their home. He was a constant source of support, wisdom, and unconditional love – always putting his family’s needs above his own. His presence was a steady anchor and his deep commitment to those he loved will remain a lasting legacy.
Kevin touched the lives of many through his work as General Manager of the Maverik Center, CEO & President of the Utah Grizzlies, and President of Centennial Management Group. He has been with the Maverik Center since 1997, helping open its doors to the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics. He helped many careers grow during his time there and has left a long-lasting impact on the Utah sports community.
A generous person at his core, Kevin gave his time and support to many people and organizations, including Make-a-Wish Utah, Visit Salt Lake, ECHL, IAVM, and many many more. He never looked for or expected accolades for any of his work or contributions. He was humble and helped those who needed it, expecting nothing in return.
Kevin was preceded in his death by his mother Cheryl Ann Bruder and his grandson Arden Brooks Taylor.
He is survived by his wife Susan Bruder, his father Ronald Bruder, his brother Steve Bruder (Teri), his children Allison Taylor (Jace), Emily Bruder (Austin Dittmer), Joel Bruder (Serena), & Christopher Bruder, and his grandchildren Libby Taylor, Frances Taylor, & Jett Dittmer.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Make-a-Wish Foundation in his honor using this link: http://site.wish.org/goto/BruderMemorial, a cause he dedicated much time and focus to.
A vigil will be held at Larkin Sunset Gardens in Sandy on Monday, May 19, 2025, at 6:00 PM followed by a rosary prayer at 7:00 PM. Funeral mass will be held at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Sandy on Tuesday, May 20, at 11:00 AM with burial service at Larkin Sunset Gardens to immediately follow. A luncheon will be held in his honor following the services at Cottonwood Country Club at 1:00 PM Tuesday, May 20, 2025. The service will be livestreamed via Zoom and can be accessed by clicking the "Watch Services" button above.

Hi Susan, it’s Stacy Colley. I don’t know if you remember Kevin & I, but I wanted to reach out and tell you how very sorry we are to hear the news of Kevin’s passing. You both were always so kind and welcoming to us. The crazy thing is, Kevin just accepted another job coaching kids in Utah after all this time. I believe it’s been 12 years since we left. So, all the old memories have been flooding my mind lately. I often think about your sweet family and the amazing Christmas parties you always had for the Grizzlies family. My Kevin always looked up to your Kevin, as he was an amazing guy and a great boss. I hope you and your family find peace and comfort, and we will be praying for you all. ♥️
My heart felt condolences to Susan and your entire family. Kevin was a friend and terrific business associate during my time at the ECHL. Always diplomatic and reserved, his comments and observations were concise and well delivered.
I truly enjoyed getting to know him and having the opportunity to work with him on the ECHL board and Executive Committee for many years. He worked unselfishly on behalf of the Grizzlies and the League.
Gone way too soon. We will miss him dearly but with many fond memories.
I am so sorry to hear of Kevin’s passing my heart goes out to all of you !! I was in his graduating class and went to ISU with him !

It was an absolute honor to work with Kevin as he helped the IFAD get the Mountain America Center out of the ground and instant success. His unwavering help to Rob Spear and Erik Hudson to shepherd this project to a sustainable and bright future is without par. We became instant friends and in my first meeting I couldn’t help but feel his greatness as a leader and his compassion for his fellow man. You will and are greatly missed Kevin.
We were so sorry to hear about Kevin. We will keep all of you in our prayers.
The Jirgenson family sends our condolence on your great loss of Kevin. He will be greatly missed.
We will deeply miss Kevin, he was a great person and a fine example to me in all my interactions with him over the years. I will pray for peace and comfort for your family during this hard time.
This just sucks. So sorry . Kevin is one of the great ones and he was taken too early.
May your family find peace in all the wonderful memories of Kevin. God Bless. 🙏🏽
Susan I am so sorry for the loss that you and your family have suffered. I knew Kevin on a personal level as part of the board of governors of the ECHL while I was general council. Later, I worked with him closely as chairman of the board. As you know I am sure, he was calm, thoughtful and lead the ECHL to the prominence that it enjoys today. He was respected by his peers and certainly by me. His good nature was accompanied by a a slight smile that was genuine. He will be missed, but more importantly he will be remembered.
Debbie smith I work for c m g I have worked and know Kevin for many years . He was a great boss I will miss him so munch sorry for your loss
We are so sorry for your loss. Kevin will truly be missed. We have been blessed to have spent the time we had together. The wedding, boating trips in Seattle, our trip to Sandy and who can forget the Dolphins games. We love you and your family. May God give you strength during this time.
We are heartbroken to hear about Kevin's passing. Please accept our condolences and know that we are thinking and praying for you in Chicago. May God bless Kevin in heaven. The Disparte Family, Tim, Lisa & Luke
Kevin's kindness, compassion, philanthropy, and most of all his love for his family, was next level. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, help with many charitable endeavors and always looking out for the disadvantaged. He was the true image of a Christian; I never heard Kevin speak poorly of others, he always chose to look at the good in people. When we would catch up infrequently--on the phone or playing a round of gold once a year--all we did was talk about his family and catch each other up on our children's progression (a little sports talk as well). Kevin made a difference in many peoples lives and the world will be a lesser place without his smile on this earth. If there is such a thing as a fast pass in Heaven, Kevin had it.
My condolences to the entire family. I enjoyed my time working at the arena with him. His presence made it a better place. God bless.
Our hearts go out to all of you at the loss of Kevin. We hold many special memories of our younger years and time spent with Kevin, Susan, Allison and Emily during our first start in Huntington, West Virginia and the Huntington Civic Arena. Kevin was an exceptional man, colleague, and friend. We are forever grateful for his mentorship and guidance to Matt in launching a career. We lift you all in prayer and will continue cheering the Cyclones a bit extra for him.
I'm sad to hear this news of Kevin's passing. I enjoyed our short visits at the hockey games. He was always friendly and kind to me. My heart aches for his family and friends. My sincere condolences for your loss.
Kevin was my elementary/ junior high best friend. I lived near his house and met him soon after he moved from Illinois. We had paper routes together, wiffle ball in his back yard, moped drag races, and played 2 on 2 basketball together; it was him and me against our dads. I don't have to mention who won. I will cherish these memories among many others. My condolences and prayers to the families, he was one in million selfless and loving Christian family man. He will be missed but not forgotten.
So sorry for your loss, Bruder family. I worked for Kevin from 2012-2014. I enjoyed matching / teaming up playing 5 on 5 hoops with him at lunch nearby for exercise and competition. He always provided updates on what was going on with Susan or the kids sports, college search and career prospects. His friendly, community-rich presence will be gone but not forgotten.
We are so sorry to hear about Kevin, it was such a shock. He was a great guy full of life and happiness. We will miss him greatly. Please let us know if you need anything.
Susan My Deepest Condolences to you and your Family. My Good friend and colleague Kevin is gone, however, will never be forgotten. What a wonderful man Kevin is, and his legacy and friendship will be in our hearts forever. Kevin was larger than life and lived it to the fullest. Now that he is gone from this mortal life may all the beautiful memories of Kevin be a blessing to you and your family, children and grandchildren. Please accept my deepest sympathies for losing your best friend. God Bless you and give you peace.
My dearest friend Susan, my heart aches and goes out to you and your family. Kevin was such a wonderful man and will be incredibly missed. May you find comfort in your memories. You are in our prayers today and always. Anytime and anything you need we are here for you.
I’m very sorry to hear of Kevin’s passing. I was fortunate enough to work with him opening up The E Center years ago. He was a great boss and friend who I enjoyed working with and playing basketball with down at the gym. A great person and leader. My heartfelt condolences go out to the Bruder family, wishing you all peace and comfort during this tough time.
Sorry for your loss. We both worked for Kevin for along time. sincerely Brent Lund
So sorry for your loss . My thoughts and prayers go out to your family at this time. I worked at the E-Center as one of his ushers for many years.
Susan, I am so sorry to hear about Kevin. Our thoughts are with you and the family. I am trying to see the positive here, which there is none but you are so blessed and lucky to have your entire family close by during this time. Kevin was an amazing man and we always enjoyed our time we spent together on the road traveling for hockey. He always had a smile on his face and I loved seeing that. Hugs from all of us.
I had the opportunity of meeting and working with Kevin during the fund raising and the eventual construction of the Mountain America Center in Idaho Falls.
Kevin brought his insights, experience, honesty, and confidence to us board members, and the community as a whole, allowing the confidence of our local sponsors to invest in such a great community project. Idaho Falls will forever be in debt to Kevin for his contribution to our community.
I found Kevin's obituary describing his principals and love of family exactly how I would have pictured him in his other surroundings.
It is with heart felt sympathy that I pray for his family during this time.
I am so so sorry about the loss of Kevin’s life on earth. We are friends of his dad Ron and late mother Cheryl who he is reunited with now. May god give your family comfort and peace during this difficult time .
I am so sorry for your loss of Kevin. He was truly one of the best people I ever had the privilege to know. I met him when we were starting the Idaho Falls event center and Kevin made the presentation for Centennial Management to be the operations managers and team owner. I so enjoyed the many years I got to work with Kevin and become friends. He was an astute business man with such integrity, humor and kindness. His knowledge was vast and he shared it easily and with such humility. He treated everyone with such respect. Through numerous conversations we ended up talking about family. Susan, his children, and his church were the most important things in his world. I admired him greatly for living a life showing what is truly important. I learned so much from him and cherish his friendship. I grieve with all of you at his passing and keep all of you in prayer. Thank you for having his service online so I could honor his life and say goodbye. I so wished I could have been there in person. My heart goes out to all of you and I hope his love and cherished memories carry you through.

I was shocked to receive a message of Kevin‘s passing. I am so very sorry. He was an exceptional person taken far too soon. My association with him was limited to the work we did with the Idaho Falls Auditorium District and later with the Mountain America Center. Kevin was more than just a professional, he was generous with his time and really good at teaching and modeling best practice. He showed great respect to the Elmore family and was an excellent representative for them. Though we didn’t interact much recently, I I’m confident that everyone who has had the privilege of working with him and learning from him is better because of it. Thank you for sharing your husband and father with us. May you find comfort in the memories of all the happiness you shared.
