Soft-spoken, camera shy, kind spirited, devoted wife and mother Kristy Ann Overby Hose passed away December 24, 2025. Her broken-hearted family took solace in the thought that Kris would experience this year’s Christmas, her favorite holiday, in peace, comfort and joy.
Born in Salt Lake City on May 12, 1954, Kris was the daughter of Robert and Thelma Overby and was raised with her siblings Robert Jr., Barbara and Diane in Salt Lake City. Before her 1972 graduation from Highland High School, she was quite tickled to be dating a “college guy”. On March 22, 1975, she married that college guy - Gary Hose. Kris and Gary rented homes for a while, the way young married couples do, but they eventually settled in their own home in Sandy. There, they raised their three sons, Justin, Jon, and Jason. This past March Kris and Gary celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
Kris was a devoted wife and mother, but she pursued lots of other interests as well. She worked for a time in various customer service and sales positions before working twenty years with Salt Lake County Library System, from which she retired.
Kris found joy in preparing massive meals for her husband and three sons, and especially in hosting gatherings for birthday and holiday celebrations. At these events, she glowed with pride in her sons, her daughters-in-law and her grandchildren. She delighted in regular social connections with their dinner club and her women’s lunch bunch. Kris was a Disney devotee. She loved visiting Disneyland. Disney collectibles were always present in her decorating schemes. Her ability to listen intently and offer advice, her infectious holiday happiness, unending kindness and generosity will be missed.
Kris is survived and will be deeply missed by her husband Gary Hose; her sons Justin Hose (wife Heather and sons Ian and Zach); Jon Hose (wife Melissa and children Blake, Quinn and Ashton); Jason Hose (wife Emily and children Dylan and Dani); sister Diane Van Vactor and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly; sister-in-law Tina Hose Sumner (husband George) and of course her treasured pet Augie Doggie.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held January 23, 2026, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at The Chateau at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E 10600 S, Sandy, UT 84092. Kris was an avid supporter of ASPCA, Utah Humane Society, and Best Friends Animal Society. In lieu of flowers, Kris can be honored by a donation to an animal welfare organization of your choice.
I met Kris in 5th grade and we stayed friends through graduation. Her family was so kind to me. She was always so sweet. She is gone way too soon.
Gary and boys, I am deeply saddened for your lose. Kris was such a genuine sweet person, she will certainly be missed. She never said a negative thing and always seemed happy. She certainly loved her family and it showed.
I met Kris and Gary in dinner club. This couple has touched me so much. Kris is one of the nicest, kindest people I have ever known. She and Gary always went out of their way to make everyone feel good. Kris always wanted to take care of everyone, if any of us were having something going on, she wanted to help. Kris offered to take my mother in law out to lunch, watch over her if I needed a break, she even wanted to come over and clean my house when I was going through breast cancer. Gary too is always the gentleman.
I didn’t let her clean my house but I know she would have. I loved you Kris and I miss you. Gary love you also. Celeste
Dear Gary and Family & friends,
My thoughts and prayers are with us as we mourn Kris’s passing & celebrate the completion of her beautiful circle of life
May peace be with all as we remember her kindness,
Love and friendship
I first met Kris because Gary and George worked together. And then about 12 years ago, they joined our dinner group. Kris is one of the sweetest people I know and so caring of everyone in the group. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family now because she will be deeply missed.
Gary, John and I were so sorry to hear about Kris. I know she will be deeply missed by you and your family. Sending love.

You are missed. You were always there. Weather it was at 5 am when we were off to go fishing & having a coffee ready or sitting in the stands at your kids little league games cheering. You left a mark! Thank you for all the joy you brought into this world!
