Larry Eldon Whittaker, born on August 21, 1946, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Eldon Lambson Whittaker and Dorothy Evelyn Savage, passed away peacefully on December 25th, 2024 in Sandy, Utah.
Larry grew up in the Rose Park area of Salt Lake City, where he developed a lifelong love for horses and the outdoors. A graduate of South High School and the University of Utah with a degree in Finance, Larry was a proud Ute who enjoyed watching University of Utah athletics.
Larry loved woodworking and was a talented craftsman, making numerous pieces of furniture for the family. He was also a talented photographer with a deep appreciation for nature. He and Lynne traveled extensively across the United States, capturing breathtaking images of mountains, rivers, and lakes. His work earned numerous ribbons at State and County Fairs and was featured on nightly news programs and in calendars, bringing joy to many.
Larry was a life long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He held many callings over the years as an active member. Larry also had a deep devotion for genealogy and would take that love and his skills to be a family history service missionary serving multiple missions. He had a deep connection to his ancestors and helping others find their ancestors as well.
On May 24, 1973, Larry married Barbara Lynne Whittaker in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they built a loving family over their 51 years of marriage. They set an amazing example of a happy marriage based on love and respect. As a family many memories were made on holidays, while camping and traveling and in the large backyard at home. Larry is survived by his wife Lynne; his four children: Stephanie (Matthew) Robinson, Michael (Mallory) Whittaker, Traci (Jeremy) Quick, and Jeffrey Whittaker; nine grandchildren: Hayden, Samantha, Charly, Abby, and Maxwell Robinson; Isaac and Luke Quick; and Harrison and Sawyer Whittaker; as well as his sister Sharen Jorgensen (Denny).
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 30, 2024, at the LDS Granite Ward building located at 9245 S Quail Run Dr., Sandy, Utah. A viewing will take place from 9:00 to 10:15 a.m., followed by the funeral service from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Larry will be interred at Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery at 1950 E 10600 S in Sandy.

So sorry to hear of Larry's passing. Larry and I grew up in the same area of Glendale (not Rose Park). We attended the same LDS ward, the Cannon 5th and High School together. We were also in the same Army Reserve Unit and went to Armor Training at Fort Knox Kentucky together, what a great man. I am grateful to have known him.
