Listen to Obituary

Larry Eugene Curtis, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2025, at the age of 90. He leaves behind a legacy of love, service, hard work, and faith that has touched the lives of many.

Larry is survived by his devoted wife of 70 years, Marilyn R. Curtis (Haslam); their children Karen Blunt (Chad), Barbara Wheeler, Michael H. Curtis (Tami), John A. Curtis (Torrie), and Robert L. Curtis (Monica); 21 cherished grandchildren; and more than 30 great-grandchildren, with more on the way. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Susan Curtis; his grandson, Jason R. Curtis; and his great-grandsons, EJ Curtis, and Malcolm Hansen Blunt.

Born on February 6, 1935, Larry spent his early years in Arizona, Nevada, and Utah. He graduated from West High School in Salt Lake City, where he met the love of his life, Marilyn. Larry and Marilyn were married in the Salt Lake Temple, beginning a lifelong journey together centered on faith, love, and family.

While raising six children, Larry worked diligently-often holding multiple jobs-until he earned his degree in business with an emphasis in human relations. His career took him across the Mountain West, working for mining companies in Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and Utah. After retiring, he and Marilyn made their home in Mapleton, Utah, where they have lived ever since.

Larry had a deep love for the outdoors. He found joy in hunting, camping, backpacking, fishing, and playing tennis. Some of his favorite memories were made exploring trails and mountain paths on four-wheeling adventures with his brother, family, and friends.

A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Larry served faithfully in many callings throughout his life. He especially treasured his time serving in the temple and on a senior temple mission with Marilyn in Nauvoo, Illinois.

He loved traveling and visited many places around the world-some as a passionate BYU Cougars fan and many with family by his side. Larry was blessed with good friends and neighbors throughout his life, and their love and support were a constant source of joy and strength.

Larry will be remembered as a loving patriarch, a dedicated provider, and a quiet yet powerful example of humility, strength, and kindness. His influence will live on through the countless lives he touched.

He will be dearly missed, but never forgotten.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2025 from 9:30 to 10:45 AM with the funeral to follow at 11:00 AM at the Mapleton 5th Ward (825 E Hawks Rst Dr, Mapleton, UT 84664). Interment will be held at Larkin Sunset Gardens (1950 E 10600 S Sandy, UT 84092).

Guestbook/Condolences

Knowing we must all leave mortality makes the passing of people we hold dear a little easier. But losing those who have impacted our lives immeasurably, always pulls at the heart strings. Larry was one of the most authentic friends I have known. He never brought attention to himself and always showed an interest in others. A life well lived as a disciple of Jesus Christ is a tribute and one he solidly earned. He will be dearly missed.
