Obituary Photo for LaVon “Bonnie” Miller Hawley

LaVon “Bonnie” Miller Hawley passed away peacefully, surrounded by her children on November 30, 2021 in Holladay, UT.  Born on January 5, 1938 in Salt Lake City, UT, she moved as a teenager with her family to Washington, DC where she graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School. She lived most of her life with her beloved husband, Larry, in Rockville, MD and Fredericksburg, VA, before returning to the Salt Lake Valley a few years ago.

Bonnie was a phone operator when she started dating the love of her life, Larry. She later enjoyed supporting a dermatology practice as her children grew independent, but was more proud of her work in the home. She was a caring and supportive wife, mother, and grandmother who loved nothing more than being with her family. She was active in social activities with her many friends and fellow club members, reading, and spending time at the family’s beach house in Emerald Isle, NC, where she spent countless hours near the ocean, gathering seashells. She also enjoyed helping others, whether with Larry and the Fredericksburg or Montgomery Central-Derwood Lions Clubs or at a food pantry in Gaithersburg, MD.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, June and C. Leigh Miller, and her husband, Larry. She leaves behind beloved children De Hawley Brown (husband, James Brown and son, Jameson), Broker “Skip” Hawley (wife, Shauna and daughter, Erin), and Steve Hawley (wife, Karen and children, Abby and Ethan), along with nieces and nephews across the country.

Due to the ongoing COVID restrictions, the family will have a graveside service for both Bonnie and Larry (who died last year, during the pandemic) at Rockville’s ParkLawn Cemetery on Saturday, December 11.  Donations to the Susan G Komen foundation, Alzheimer’s research or Lion’s club International are appreciated in lieu of flowers.

Guestbook/Condolences

I was in the same class at Wilson High School and also in the same sorority. I remember Bonnie as being pleasant and kind, two qualities I appreciate more and more as I get older. My sincere condolences to her family.
