Lavon Gill Carter

1935 ~ 2017

Lavon Gill Carter passed peacefully May 12, 2017. Lavon loved to be called Vonnie. It gave her a warm feeling, because it's what her father called her. Born April 11, 1935 to Joseph B. and Leonora Miller Gill. The fourth daughter of five girls, the "Gill Girls". Raised in the Sugarhouse area, she claimed she grew up in Fairmont Park. Married to H. Craig Carter, later divorced. From that union came four incredible, fun loving children that survive her; David A. and Noelle Carter, Shauna and Tom Mabey, Suzie and Rob Macriss, Christine Kent. She is also survived by her longtime friend, and love, Bud Sullivan. One of her favorite things were the red roses he would bring her. Her six delightful, much loved grandchildren; Molly and Emma Carter, CiCi and Kyle Kent, and Sarah and Nicholas Macriss. Her sisters; Sarah Ellen (Sally) Jones, Pauline Cannon, Marilyn Mead (deceased), and Jolene and Lynn Gillette. Many nieces and nephews, and cousins that she deeply cared for.

Vonnie enjoyed living. She lived a simple, but good and happy life. She loved music, from classical to romantic love songs, the ballet, Broadway musicals and movies. She loved to read and loved to laugh. People were her passion. Vonnie was known for being wildly independent, and did things her own way. She faced the adversities of life with a positive attitude, even when she got sick. Keeping busy, and working, were very important to her; she worked well into her seventies. She loved her family, many friends, and Bud. Her greatest accomplishments were her children, being a mom, grandma, sister, and friend. She leaves this life to pass on to another great adventure with many warm memories. What she didn't accomplish in this life, she'll surely accomplish in her next. Family and friends are invited to celebrate her life on Saturday, June 24, 2017 @ 1:00 PM at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, SLC UT. Her family would like to thank the incredible and extremely caring staff at the Lodge by Valeo for helping her find comfort, and maintaining her dignity in her last days.

"Love is the only thing that we can take with us when we go. It makes the end so easy."

She has requested to be cremated. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity, or tell someone that you love them. For condolences, please visit www.LarkinCares.com.
