Service to Honor Loida’s Life

Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E 10600 S, Sandy, UT 84092

Monday Mar 24, 2025 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM

Loida Ortiz, 74, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2025, in Sandy, Utah. Born on April 27, 1950 to Pedro Aquilino Ortiz and Angela Perez, in Ponce, Puerto Rico, Loida was the sixth of seven children. She was married on December 30, 1972 to Alberto Gonzalez.

Loida pursued her passion for science by studying microbiology at the University of Puerto Rico. Her career led her to the pharmaceutical industry, where she dedicated herself to ensuring quality and safety. Until she retired due to health issues, Loida enjoyed traveling all over the world to conduct quality assurance audits—a role that combined her expertise with her love for new adventures.

At home, Loida enjoyed cooking for her family and guests, sharing her Puerto Rican heritage through classic dishes. As the family supplier of homemade “sofrito”, Loida shared the flavors of her homeland as long as she could. She also liked to sew dresses and matching outfits for her daughters and grandkids, a skill she learned from her mother, who was a professional seamstress.

Loida was a woman of great courage who overcame many obstacles throughout her life. She exemplified resilience, self-reliance, and the miracles of faith. As a long-time member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Loida believed with all her heart in the gospel and dedicated much of her time during retirement to temple work.

Loida is survived by her daughters Elizabeth (Eleazar) Zambrano, Julia (Leo) Vongphakdy, and Catherine (Cameron) Curtis, as well as eight cherished grandchildren. She was predeceased by her ex-husband, Alberto Gonzalez. She was deeply devoted to her family and took immense pride in being a loving and dedicated mother.

A service to honor Loida’s life will be held on March 24, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Larkin Sunset Gardens, located at 1950 E Dimple Dell Road (10600 S), Sandy, UT, 84092. Internment will immediately follow the service at the same location.

Loida’s strength, faith, and love will remain an enduring inspiration to those who knew her.

I was so sad to see this. I recently moved back to Utah I wanted to look up my dear friend. I loved her as a baby sister. I will never ever forget her or the time we spent as she waited for those most precious lungs. I pray for her sweet girls and their families.
