William Charles Polson

1958 ~ 2014

The good news is, I get to spend Christmas with my parents. The bad news is, you\re reading about it.

I don\t have a lot of accomplishments worth mentioning, but there are a few things of which I\m proud. First, I served 23 years as an officer in the US Army, of which my four years in active service were especially gratifying. Second, I was able to coach high school football. I know I was better served by this experience than the kids I was coaching. Third, I believe I\ve left a strong professional legacy, both inside and outside of the insurance industry. I\m especially proud of the work I was able to do with my friends and colleagues at SentryWest. Finally, I hope the ledger indicates that I\ve done more good than bad. (I suppose I\ll know soon.) Although sometimes I\ve failed, I\ve always tried to do the right thing.

During my life, I was able to learn the following: It\s Sinatra\s world, he only lets us live in it. The best advice I\ve had was from my mother, who told me the only things you regret are the things you don\t do. In my youth, I would occasionally take liberties beyond the letter of this instruction, but it remains a great way to look at life.

My keys to happiness are as follows. Travel often; travel well. It\s okay to listen to Christmas music year-round—never let anyone tell you otherwise. Always remember to maintain a sense of humor. Learn to forgive. And laugh. Laugh at both the good and the bad. Just keep laughing.

I want to share that I\ve been very lucky. I had the best parents ever, a lovely wife and partner in Sharon, an incredible family, and an amazing group of friends and colleagues. I want you all to know that I\m overwhelmed with your support and caring.

One last thing, I vote to skip the funeral and have a party instead. See below for details.

A viewing will be held at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South), Salt Lake City on Tuesday, November 18 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. A wake will be held the same day at Log Haven, 6451 East Millcreek Road, Salt Lake City from 4:00 p.m. to 9 p.m.
