Después de una vida llena de amor, servicio y una devoción inquebrantable por su familia, nuestra amada María Luzmila Muñetón—cariñosamente conocida como Abuela Luz o Abuela Mila—partió de esta vida el 2 de abril de 2026, rodeada del amor de su familia y de su amado esposo, dejando un legado que vivirá para siempre en nuestros corazones.
Nació el 1 de octubre de 1931 en Calarcá, Quindío, Colombia, hija de Lisandro Moreno y María de los Ángeles Garzón. Como la segunda de siete hijos, su vida de servicio comenzó desde muy temprana edad. Tras la pérdida de su madre siendo aún joven, asumió con amor una responsabilidad mucho mayor que su edad, ayudando a criar y cuidar a sus hermanos con fortaleza, compasión y un sacrificio silencioso.
A los 28 años conoció al amor de su vida, José Muñetón. Se casaron en 1960 y compartieron 66 hermosos años juntos, construyendo un hogar centrado en la fe, la unión y el amor. Juntos tuvieron cinco hijos: William, Rocío, Martha, Myriam y Jhon. Su familia creció aún más al convertirse en abuela de doce nietos y bisabuela de veintidós bisnietos.
Abuela Luz era el corazón de su hogar. En Colombia, los domingos eran sagrados—no solo por ir a la capilla, sino por la familia reunida alrededor de su mesa, donde sus frijoles se convirtieron en una tradición inolvidable. Su cocina era más que alimento; era una expresión de amor. Nadie salía de su casa con hambre, y todos los que llegaban se sentían bienvenidos, cuidados y valorados.
Su vida fue un reflejo de su fe como fiel miembro de La Iglesia de Jesucristo de los Santos de los Últimos Días. Enseñó a su familia, no solo con palabras sino con su ejemplo, la importancia de servir a los demás, perdonar con generosidad y amar sin condiciones.
En el año 2003 se trasladó a los Estados Unidos junto a su amado esposo, donde continuó su vida de servicio—cuidando de sus nietos y apoyando a su familia en todo momento. Fue una fuente constante de sabiduría, consuelo y fortaleza. Muchos de nosotros podíamos pasar horas hablando con ella, aprendiendo de ella y sintiendo la paz que brindaba su presencia.
Será recordada por su compasión, su paciencia, su fortaleza y su extraordinaria capacidad de perdonar. Fue amor en acción—siempre dando, siempre sirviendo, siempre uniendo a su familia.
Como último reflejo de su vida y de su corazón, nos dejó un mensaje sencillo pero lleno de significado: “Estar unidos. Servir unos a otros. Vivir feliz.”
Así vivió ella. Y así seguirá viviendo en nosotros.
Extrañaremos profundamente a la esposa, madre, abuela y bisabuela que fue. Su ausencia deja un vacío inmenso, pero su legado de amor, unidad y fe seguirá guiándonos.
Con fe, nos aferramos a la promesa de que las familias son eternas, y encontramos consuelo en saber que la volveremos a ver.
After a life filled with love, service, and unwavering devotion to her family, our beloved María Luzmila Muñetón—affectionately known as Abuela Luz or Abuela Mila—passed away on April 2, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family and her beloved husband, leaving behind a legacy that will forever live in our hearts.
She was born on October 1, 1931, in Calarcá, Quindío, Colombia, to Lisandro Moreno and María de los Ángeles Garzón. As the second of seven children, her life of service began early. After losing her mother at a young age, she lovingly stepped into a role far beyond her years, helping raise and care for her siblings with strength, compassion, and quiet sacrifice.
At the age of 28, she met the love of her life, José Muñetón. They were married in 1960 and shared 66 beautiful years together, building a home centered on faith, unity, and love. Together they raised five children: William, Rocío, Martha, Myriam, and Jhon. Her family continued to grow as she became the proud grandmother of twelve grandchildren and the great-grandmother of twenty-two great-grandchildren.
Abuela Luz was the heart of her home. In Colombia, Sundays were sacred—not only for going to church, but for family gathered around her table, where her frijoles became a cherished tradition. Her cooking was more than food; it was an expression of love. No one ever left her home hungry, and everyone who entered felt welcomed, cared for, and seen.
Her life was a reflection of her faith as a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She taught her family, not only with words but through her example, the importance of serving one another, forgiving freely, and loving unconditionally.
In 2003, she moved to the United States with her beloved husband, where she continued her life of service—caring for her grandchildren and supporting her family in every way she could. She was a constant source of wisdom, comfort, and strength. Many of us could spend hours talking with her, learning from her, and feeling the peace that came from simply being in her presence.
She will be remembered for her compassion, her patience, her strength, and her extraordinary ability to forgive. She was love in action—always giving, always serving, always bringing her family together.
As a final reflection of her life and her heart, she left us with a simple but powerful message: “Stay united. Serve one another. Live happily.”
That is how she lived. And that is how she will continue to live in us.
We will deeply miss the wife, the mother, the grandmother, and the great-grandmother she was. Her absence leaves an immeasurable void, but her legacy of love, unity, and faith will continue to guide us.
With faith, we hold on to the promise that families are eternal, and we find comfort in knowing that we will see her again.
