1930 ~ 2026
Margaret was born on 10 December 1930, the second child of Joe Gutierrez and Mary Galindo. She was named after her fathers grandmother, Margarita Brambila. Margaret spent her early life in Grants, New Mexico, she moved to California when she was young, but did spend her 6th grade and junior year of high school in Gallup. She graduated from Our Lady Queen of Angels High School in 1949.
Margaret worked for Bank of America, she enjoyed that job and had work friends that she communicated with for decades. Bank of America is where she met her husband, Montie William Tracy, he worked for IBM and would service the machines at her workplace. Margaret once said that when she was dating Montie she also accepted dates from other men, but one day Montie said, ‘but Margaret, I thought you were my girl’ and she decided that she did want to be his girl. They were married in Las Vegas on February 25, 1956.
They bought a house in La Mirada when they married and lived there with their family until July 1970. They did live in San Jose, California, Poughkeepsie and Wappingers Falls, New York for a few months each when Montie had IBM schooling. They also lived in Boulder, Colorado from 1970 until 1975, Los Gatos, California from 1975 until 2011, Las Vegas, Nevada from 2011 until 2020, and Draper, Utah until the present day.
While in La Mirada Margaret belonged to the service organization E-Bell, they put on musicals to raise money for charity and did other service oriented activities. Margaret volunteered as a cub scout leader, a cheer coach, a girl scout leader and helped her neighbors when they were in need.
In May of 1970 Margaret joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and became a member of the Relief Society, she was often offered the opportunity to serve others. When she volunteered to clean a hoarders home, she did it in such a kind way that the lady was not offended and had a cheerful conversation with Margaret the entire time. She made meals for the sick, she gave rides, she joined the choir, she took in an Indian child, she tutored a couple of high school students with their Spanish homework. She was a dedicated visiting teacher, always faithful in serving and becoming friends with those she visited. She called her 106 year old Aunt every month, and each year would make the trip to New Mexico to visit her, and donated for her upkeep.
Margaret had numerous church callings and was a dedicated and devoted worker, never complaining but trying her best to do the job well.
Margaret had 4 children, David (Pam) Tracy, Diana (Ken) Eschman, Debra (David) Mitchell, Marcella (Mark) Peek; many grand children and great grandchildren, but the one best love of her life was her husband Montie. Many times she would describe what a hard worker he was, how kind he was, how much she loved and appreciated him. She missed him when he went out of town, she was happy when he came home from work, she enjoyed going on trips with him, she encouraged him in all he did. When they got old the most important thing to her was that they were together. They were married for almost 70 years in this mortal life, and Margaret has the faith that they will be together forever.
Hi mom, I know you’re close. I love you. Don’t ever leave me.
