  • Our mother, grandmother and wife, Marianne McConnell Smith Hansen passed on to a much better place on Thanksgiving, November 25, 2021. There was a joyful reunion with her Heavenly Father and Mother, her husband, son, parents and other relatives and many friends that day.

She was born October 25, 1938, in San Pedro, CA to Hunter McConnell, Sr. And Sophie Quave McConnell. She was the youngest (15 years younger than her brother who just turned 98). At age 9 they moved to the mountain town of Idyllwild, CA where she rode her horse through the snow to grade school. She played flute in the marching band and was a cheerleader in high school in Hemet, CA which is down the hill from Idyllwild.

Marianne met her husband, Glenn, at San Diego State. He swept her off her feet with his accomplished unicycle riding around campus and his need of a typist for his Master’s Thesis. They were married at the Little Chapel of the Roses in Bonita, CA in 1958. They had three children, Leslie Elaine (son, Christopher Buttars, daughter-in-law, Sarah Ripper), Stanley Glenneth Bernard (wife, Carla Bowman, son Stephen Kerry) and Kerry Hunter Roy (preceded in death in 1985). She was a mom, homemaker, substitute teacher, home farm owner and first mate in running it, Water Co. secretary, partner in Security Construction Co., private pilot and an equal partner in all their ventures and adventures.

They lived in San Diego, then Phelan, CA for 45 years. They purchased land in then Cedar Valley, Utah in 1989, built a home, barn, well and airstrip which was on FFA charts as Glenmar Ranch. Both Glenn and Marianne were pilots and together built their final airplane, a beautiful RANS S-6. They finally moved to their home in what became Eagle Mountain in 2007. They planted trees, dug ponds, improved the property, built and flew the RANS. Glenn’s health declined and he passed at the end of December 2016.

Marianne continued to work the property, hosted a large family reunion, continued to fly and be very active in her community.
At the Stake conference in late 2017 Marianne was fortunate again to find love when she met Uwe Hansen, and they were married soon after.

Marianne had been a Temple Worker and with the assistance of several close friends was able to complete Glenn’s temple work, their sealing, and sealing of Kerry to them in the week before she and Uwe were married at the end of December 2017.

Before Glenn passed, they had begun planning the first phase of Glenmar Ranches. Marianne was able to complete the second subdivision in 2019 where some lovely homes have been built and great friendships have been made.

Thank you all for being such wonderful friends and being a very special part of her life and in her heart.

Marianne’s funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at 11:30 a.m. at the LDS Stake Center in Eagle Mountain, UT (4588 North Eagle Mountain Boulevard). A viewing will be held from 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Marianne will be laid to rest in Glen Abbey Memorial Park in Bonita, California.

We were neighbors of the wonderful Smith family in Phelan, CA for many years.
You want to remember Marianne and recall your years together; you will regret that she is gone; but you must rejoice that she is at peace with the Lord in Heaven. Until we meet together.............Peace Marianne

Marianne was kind to us from the moment we met her. We were her neighbors at the end of Lake Mountain Road for the past two years. While she was reserved with us, she would go out of her way to serve and love us and was extraordinarily generous. Our three-week old daughter passed away in early May and Marianne donated a plot for her in the Angel Garden in the Eagle Mountain Cemetery. She did it anonymously, though found out through the grapevine of the City staff. Our daughter was also in the NICU before she passed which put an extraordinary burden on our family and Marianne and Uve stepped in and served us with meals and helping with our other children. She also came over shortly after our daughter's death and shared with me the story of her own son's loss and shared with me in my mother's grief. Marianne was simply selfless and always served. We should all be more like Marianne. I'm grateful we had the opportunity to have her in our life even for a short amount of time.
