Martha Diane Triplett Nielsen
Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sibling and friend, Martha Diane Triplett Nielsen, passed away on October 9, 2025, at the age of 79, surrounded by family members in the hospital.
Born on July 16, 1946, in Baltimore, Maryland, to her devoted parents, Clarence and Dorothy Triplett, Diane was the seventh of nine children. She grew up in Baltimore, graduated from Mergenthaler Vocational-Technical High School, and worked for the telephone company. A lover of music, she occasionally danced on The Buddy Deane Show, a cherished memory from her youth.
As a teenager, Diane met and married George Hollingsworth Schroeder III, an Army recruiting officer. They relocated to Coos Bay, Oregon, where she met missionaries from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was baptized. Tragically, George died in 1968 from injuries sustained during his second tour of duty in Vietnam. Diane and George had one son, George Schroeder Nielsen.
While attending her LDS ward in Baltimore, Diane noticed a handsome young man wearing a military uniform playing the piano at church. She met and began dating Richard Dee Nielsen, whom she married in the Salt Lake Temple in October 1968 after a brief courtship. They settled in East Millcreek, later moving to South Jordan, where they lived for the past 34 years.
Together, Diane and Richard raised six children, of whom they are immensely proud. Diane’s infectious laughter and playful teasing endeared her to those closest to her.
An avid cook, Diane delighted family, neighbors, and friends with her homemade candies, breads, and baked goods. Her compassionate service as a visiting teacher touched countless lives, reflecting her deep commitment to caring for others. She also cherished her role as Ward Activities Chairperson, where she brought joy through planning ward parties. Diane is dearly loved by family members and friends, and she will be greatly missed.
Diane is survived by her husband, Richard Dee Nielsen; children, George (Ingrid) Nielsen, Maria (Steve) Buhler, Rich (Kerri) Nielsen, Sherrie (James) Amerson, Ben (Courtney) Nielsen, and Mark (Arianne) Nielsen; sister-in-law, Victoria Triplett; siblings, Paul Triplett, Thelma Underwood, Clarence Triplett, Dorothy (Bruce) Greene, Margaret Rosasco, and Phillip Anthony (Debra) Triplett; 23 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren, with 2 more expected.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence Edward Triplett Sr. and Dorothy Madeline Williams Triplett; first husband, George Hollingsworth Schroeder III; siblings, Richard Triplett and Mary Rose Dunn; sister-in-law, Dolores Triplett; brothers-in-law, Howard Underwood and Stephen Rosasco; and granddaughter, Gracie Nielsen.
