1975 ~ 2025
Matthew Britt Schwobe, 50, passed away on November 13, 2025, at Saint Mark’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, surrounded by loved ones. Matt was born on August 26, 1975, to David H. and Jaunita W. Schwobe. He was a beloved father, spouse, son, brother, loyal friend, and colleague. He was cherished by his Catholic community—especially St. Ambrose and Judge Memorial—and will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him.
Matt attended Judge Memorial High School, where he made lifelong friendships, many of whom became family. After graduation, he followed his passions for snowboarding and golf, working at courses and resorts as the seasons came and went. Matt and Sim married in 2001 and began their new life together.
A couple of years later, he joined Kappus Landscape as a sprinkler technician, doing every job imaginable—from digging in the mud to building incredible landscapes, learning the ropes from the ground up. He earned the respect of customers, employees, contractors, and suppliers, picking up more friends along the way. In 2021, after 18 years of dedication and hard work, Matt, Sim, and his sister-in-law Soorya were able to buy Kappus Landscape from their father and mentor, Kurt Kappus. Matt always did the little things at Kappus and looked out for everyone. The hole he leaves cannot be filled.
Living for Hagen and Roan was easy for Matt. He loved being a dad—playmate, movie buddy, music enthusiast, outing planner, and so much more. He was a very cool dad who didn’t like to miss a single thing his kids were doing.
Matt was incredible in action. He had a gift for sports and excelled at the ones he loved. Snowboarding on fresh powder was his perfect moment. A close second was time on the golf course—whether in men’s league, with friends, or with his boys. He was always willing to wax a board (or even skis) or re-grip clubs for anyone who asked. Matt brought humor, wit, and steadiness to everyone around him.
When Matt learned of his Synovial Sarcoma diagnosis, he faced it with hope, determination, and his characteristic quiet strength. In classic Matt fashion, he didn’t complain or want to burden others, even as the illness became persistent and cruel. Special thanks to the Huntsman Cancer Institute for their incredible care—especially Dr. Florou, Dr. Harris, and their entire team. It is truly a special place that supported Matt and brought comfort to those who loved him.
Matt is survived by his wife, Simriti; their two sons, Hagen and Roan; his parents, David H. Schwobe and Jaunita W. Schwobe; his brother Eric Schwobe (Erika); his sister Stephanie Glawe (Sam); his sister-in-law Soorya Louder(Jeff); Dasi Kappus; and numerous nieces and nephews who adored him.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Huntsman Cancer Institute & Sarcoma Research in Matt’s honor.

Matt was one of the kindest and most caring people I’ve ever met. He never once failed to greet me with humor and really made me feel special. I’m Matt McNally’s mom and I share his heartbreak. Words will never be enough, but we send love to Sim and the boys and the entire family.

A bright light has departed for greener pastures. Never before have I witnessed someone who exuded positive energy and love like Matt, especially during the most difficult period a human being could ever experience. I had the pleasure of seeing Matt several times during the last year and he inspired me beyond’s words. Love you man and miss you already! Rest in peace.
I’m so sorry for your loss and can only imagine the pain you’re feeling. Matt was a good guy. I remember running into him at a little café in Capitol Reef, he happened to be visiting too. I hadn’t seen him in many years, but he came right over to say hello.
He truly left a mark on everyone who knew him. I hope you can feel all the love surrounding you right now.
