On Wednesday, October 2, 2024 our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Mee Lim Hong passed from this life into eternity. She was born November 17, 1927 and lived a full life.
She was renowned for her Mahjong skills, her love for children and her giving nature. Her love language was giving - all those red envelopes, the many secret "you take this" and the not-so-secret bags upon bags of food.
Mee worked as a teacher aide until well into her 80s, pouring out her love on the children she interacted with. They knew her as Grandma Mee. Her children and grandchildren knew this love well and will cherish many precious memories.
She was preceded in death by her husband Larry and her oldest grandchild. She leaves behind her four children: Joy, Young (Marjan), Sam (Mingtzong), and Hazel.; eight grandchildren: Joy (Wasiu), Alex (Ashley), Marcus (Sarah), Christian (Susannah), Nathan, Megan (Tom), Allison (Boyd), and Maggie (Kit); fourteen great-grandchildren: D'Andre, Gregory, Ava, Anna, Abigail, Matthijs, Sammie, Addie, Ellie, Hank, Liddie, Mindy, Roman, and Mila.
Private family services will be held.
Guestbook/Condolences
Mom was an example of selfless giving and humility. Thank you mom for all you taught us.
Ying Ying: you were one of a kind in so many ways. Your infectious chuckle; the roll of your eyes and the tone with which you said "Alex!" when I did or said something you thought foolish; the very many expressions you had for each occasion that made me laugh. The ways (uniquely you!) that you loved your kids and grandkids; how you would never cease to ask me how other family members were doing when we talked on the phone, giving away how they were always top of your mind; the way you showed strength when you were hurting; the soft hugs and "I love you's" you'd give; and your determination and work ethic that were inspiring to say the least. To this day when people ask my what my favorite food is, I tell them it's my Ying Ying's spaghetti. Oh the memories that brings of playing at your house with some soaps in the background. I have missed, and will always miss you. Love you - Alex
I was just telling my husband about how wonderful Grandma Mee was while we were at Hawthorne Elementary with our kids and took him to where her back yard was. It shared a fence with the school and Grandma Mee used to push apple pears from her tree through the fence for us to eat at recess. I decided to do some digging and found that she has recently passed and was so sad (and also amazed she lived such a long, beautiful life). I'm 30 years old now and most of my core memories from elementary school are of her. Rest in peace, Grandma. You are still so very loved. ♡
