Melba June Trapp Childs, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2025, in Sandy, Utah, at the age of 86. She was born on January 23, 1939, in Helena, Montana, to Ross Trapp and June Harbicht.
Melba grew up in Montana and carried with her throughout life a spirit of independence, warmth, and perseverance. She began her career as a beautician, where her creativity and caring nature shone through in every client she met. Later, she transitioned into a career in accounting, where her attention to detail and dedication served her well until her retirement in 2001.
After retiring, Melba dedicated her time to her family—especially to helping her daughter raise two young boys, a time she cherished deeply.
Melba enjoyed golf, reading, watching sports, traveling, and bowling, but her greatest joy always came from being with her family. Her quick wit, steady support, and kind heart left a lasting mark on everyone who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ross and June; her son, Jeff; and her brother, James.
She is survived by her son Gregory (Ladeana) Childs, her daughter Amanda (Scott) Barney, 5 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Melba will be remembered for her love, laughter, and devotion to her family. Her legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
