Listen to Obituary

Merlin LeRoy “Roy” Redford returned peacefully to his Heavenly Father on October 27, 2025, surrounded by love.

Born on August 3, 1938, in Salt Lake City, Utah, Roy was the sixth of eight children of Orson D. Redford and Delora Bunderson. As a young man, he served a mission in Sweden for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He later married his eternal companion, Shirley Lamborn, in the Salt Lake Temple, where they were sealed for time and all eternity.

Throughout his life, Roy served faithfully in many church callings and later completed a service mission alongside his wife, Shirley, and their son, Spencer, in Salt Lake City. He found joy in life’s simple and beautiful moments—especially through hiking and photography.

Roy was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley Redford, and their six children: Stephen L. (Bernadette) Redford, Scott J. Redford, Jonathan M. Redford, Matthew B. (Wendy) Redford, Spencer R. Redford, and Rachelle R. (Jacob) Sherwood. He is also survived by twenty grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and his brother Melvin Redford.

He was preceded in death by his parents and several cherished siblings. Roy’s legacy of quiet faith, service, and gentle strength continues to inspire all who knew him.

A public viewing will be held on Sunday, November 2, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens, located at 1950 E 10600 S (Dimple Dell Rd), Sandy, Utah. Private family services will be held at a later date.

The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to friends and caregivers for their compassion, love, and service during Roy’s final days.
