Michael Guy Humphries
June 6, 1960 – April 4, 2026
Michael was born in Provo, Utah, to Owen Guy and Barbara (Larsen) Humphries, the older brother of three sisters. At age one, his family moved to Northern California. He had many fond memories of the friends and fun he enjoyed there as a child. In high school, he had the opportunity to live in Germany with a close friend’s family, an experience that left a lasting impression on him.
He later returned to Germany to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, deepening a lifelong devotion to his faith, and forming lifelong friendships. He attended Brigham Young University, where he cherished his time as a walk-on for the BYU Cougar football team, and later transferred to the University of Utah, earning a degree in accounting.
Michael began his career as a CPA and ultimately found his professional calling in law firm administration, where he built a respected and successful career. He enjoyed the people he worked with and pursued assignments with loyalty and dedication.
Michael married his best friend and love of his life, Lisa Call, in the Salt Lake Temple. Together, they built a life centered on faith, family and devotion. Their marriage was marked by loyalty, laughter, and a deep, enduring love. Michael took great pride in providing for and caring for his family.
Michael was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and dedicated much of his life to service. For nearly a decade he served as a Scoutmaster, a role he deeply loved, especially as it allowed him to spend meaningful time with his sons. His service was recognized with the prestigious Silver Beaver Award. He then served faithfully in several bishoprics, including the City Creek YSA Ward, a special time in his life. He was eventually called as bishop in his home ward, now the Wasatch 4th Ward. Throughout these years, he often reflected on the deep love he felt for each individual he was called to serve.
He found great joy in the outdoors and felt most at peace in the mountains. He set a personal goal to summit as many state high points as possible, combining his love for adventure with his appreciation for God’s creations. Michael also loved coaching youth sports, especially football and basketball, where he mentored and encouraged many young athletes.
He was known for his attention to detail and passion for learning, reflected in his early morning study and his meticulous stamp collecting. He had a well-known sweet tooth which included chocolate raisins and double dipped chocolate peanuts. A devoted sports fan, he loved cheering on his favorite teams and sharing that enthusiasm with those around him.
Above all, Michael was a deeply devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His love for his family was unwavering. He cherished time with his children and adored his grandchildren, making it a priority to travel to see them. He looked forward to Sunday afternoons, when the family faithfully connected over FaceTime.
Michael is survived by his beloved wife Lisa and their five children: Christopher (Meredith) Humphries, Jonathan Humphries, Andrew Humphries, Matthew Humphries, Madeleine (Cole) Nelson, and his cherished grandchildren: Jude, Clark, Georgia, Lilly, and Rylee. He is also survived by his three sisters: Diane (Abe) Young, JaNae Scheidle & Tamara Humphries-Al-Fokaiki. He is preceded in death by his parents.
