Obituary

Monty Jean Alvord returned to her Heavenly Father on Friday, May 22, 2026. She was born on June 29, 1931, in Ogden, Utah, to Owen LaMont and Claudia Nedra Fisher Brown. She was the oldest of three children and growing up her family moved around frequently due to her father’s employment. Because of this, and her outgoing personality, Monty learned to make friends wherever she went. This gift would not only bless her throughout her 94 years, but would touch the lives of her family, friends, and everyone she would meet.

Monty married Edwin Dean Alvord on November 16, 1948, in Salt Lake City, Utah, and was later sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on May 26, 1949. After celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in 1998, Dean unexpectedly passed away a few months later on March 5, 1999.

Throughout her life, Monty was known for her sense of humor. She had an amazing memory and was an epic storyteller. She was also a great listener and loved hearing about people’s lives and experiences.

As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in many church leadership capacities as well as other ward and stake callings. She served a three-year mission at the LDS Church Office Building and worked in the Jordan River Temple. She was also an active member of the community and looked for opportunities to serve her community members. Some of her favorites were volunteering at the Taylorsville Library, reading with the children at the local elementary school, and later in life, visiting and reading to memory care residents.

Her greatest joy in life was her family. She loved being called Grandma by her 14 grandchildren; and GG by her 14 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She loved gathering her family together for all occasions.

She is survived by her children, Jean (Ken) Corey, Chris (Dan) Spendlove, Becky (Dave) Norton, Kelly (Amy) Alvord, and her brother Keith Brown.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dean, her son Bruce (Kollett) Alvord, her sister Barbara Swenson, and her parents.

Her family expresses their deep gratitude to all of Monty’s friends and caregivers over the years. We are deeply touched by the sincere love and relationship she enjoyed with each one of you.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, May 27, at 3:00 PM at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E Dimple Dell Road (10600 S), Sandy, Utah.

Tributes

So blessed with a long life, but even with all those years, I know they were not enough for those who held Monty so dear to their hearts. To her loved ones, I extend my deepest condolences. May the countless, fine memories of your beloved Monty forever warm your hearts and bring smiles to your faces, even behind tears shed. May you find comfort in knowing that death was never God’s plan (Gen.1:28; Rom. 5:12) and one day death will be no more (Rev.21:4) as loved ones will be resurrected (Acts 24:15) with the hope of life forever in paradise, on earth (Ps. 37:11,29) as God intended. Until then, a beautiful woman rests in God’s loving care.

I helped take care of Monty while she was living at Sagewood at Daybreak. She was more like a grandmother & amazing friend more then just a resident I helped take care of. I truly had a lot of love for her 💗 She was always someone I could talk to and she would always give me the best advice I will miss her so dearly, so many amazing memories that I will never forget. I send my condolences to her family and friends.

Monty and I were dearest friends for many years. We had so much fun together. We went to the temple together often. We would plan short road trips, I was the driver and she gave me directions where to go! We had many good times laughing until tears came! We also shed tears together. I love you Monty! I am grateful I could call you my dearest friend . Love you, Jeannie
