It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, wife, sister, aunt, cousin and friend Nancy Diane Segerstedt Hanson. Nancy was 81 and died October 22, 2023 in Millcreek City, Utah. She was born August 28, 1942 in San Francisco, California to Greger Dithlow Segerstedt & Hazel Rebecca Clinger. She married Darrell (Sam) S. Hanson on January 27,1976 in the Salt Lake City temple.

When Nancy was 2 years old, she moved to Salt Lake City, Utah. She had a brother, David and three sisters, Sharon, Marilyn, and Carol. Her father established two businesses with his brother-in-law: Artistic Lighting Studio and Metals Manufacturing. Her father was a hardworking man who loved his family. He was born in Sweden and moved to this country when he was eight years old after his family converted to the church. He instilled in his children a sense of pride and appreciation for their Swedish heritage. Her mother was devoted to her family and gave loving service to her family, friends, and those in need throughout her life. They are a close family and were always a great source of strength, love and support to each other.

Nancy lived on M Street for a while and then moved to Yale Ave. She had many girlfriends in the Bonneville Ward, many of which she remained good friends with throughout her life. While growing up on Yale Ave in Salt Lake City she attended Uintah Elementary, Roosevelt Jr. High, East High School, and the University of Utah. She was a member of the Pep Club in High School and Delta Gamma sorority in college. She graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education in 1964 and later taught 2nd and 3rd grade in both California and Utah.

Nancy worked for 2 summers at Grand Canyon after she graduated from high school. It was her first time away from home and it was a wonderful experience. One of her biggest feats was hiking the Grand Canyon. During her single years, she took advantage of traveling opportunities. She stayed in Hawaii for 2 months one summer and traveled to all the islands. She took a 5-week tour to Europe and also traveled to the Orient on a seven-week tour. She loved her traveling experiences and gained a greater appreciation and understanding of other cultures throughout the world.

She met her husband, Darrell (Sam) while both participating as leaders in the Young Special Interest Program. They both enjoyed the outdoors, hiking, volleyball, and skiing. They started dating soon after she asked him to dance at a church function. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on January 27, 1976, and moved to their home on Diana Way. They soon had three children David, Susan and Mark. The family's favorite activities were camping trips in a tent trailer. They loved traveling to Arches National Park, Capitol Reef, Canyonlands, Zions, Bryce Canyon Teton National Park and Yellowstone National Park. These trips were full of hiking adventures, being outside and spending time together.

Nancy became Nana when her first grandchild, Isabelle, was born in 2008. Soon after Emma joined the family in 2011. Nancy was a nurturing and caring mother and grandmother, always putting others' needs before her own. Her love knew no bounds and she continuously worked to create a warm and loving home. Her selflessness and unwavering support for her family and friends was strong and constant.

Nancy was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints her entire life and enjoyed her many callings over the years. She served as Relief Society President, teacher, cub scout den mother, activities committee, and more. She had a strong testimony of the Gospel which gave her much strength, guidance, and direction throughout her life.

Nancy leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to inspire and guide us. Her memory will forever be etched in our hearts, and we will strive to honor her by living our lives with the same kindness and grace she exemplified.

She is survived by husband: Darrell (Sam) S. Hanson, children David Darrell Hanson, Susan Rebecca Parsons (fiancé: Peter Bailey) & Mark Andrew Hanson, grandchildren: Isabelle Rebecca and Emma Mae Parsons, sisters: Sharon Shreeve (Sid), Marilyn Summerhays (Lane) & Carol Olson (David), sister-in-law Patricia Hanson and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by parents Greger and Hazel Segerstedt, brother David Segerstedt and sister-in-law Shirley Segerstedt and brother-in-law LeRoy J. Pia.
