Peter Jurgen Rabe passed away peacefully on July 15, 2025, in West Valley City, Utah.
He was born on May 25, 1942, in Berlin Germany, to Armin Ernst Rabe and Erika Luise Seidel, and emigrated to Utah in 1953 with his mother, grandmother, and aunt, later joined by his father.
Peter graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts in 1969, after his marriage to Marie Jennifer Horner a year earlier in the Salt Lake Temple. They spent 57 wonderful years together.
After graduating from college he started his own freelance business, Graphic & Photo Arts, and also worked for numerous other companies including Channel 7 and Channel 4 preparing television graphics.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served an honorable mission to Austria, was a counselor in the bishopric, Sunday School president, Stake Mission president, teacher and volunteer with his wife at the Utah State Prison for their home evening program.
Peter had no actual hobbies, but he loved to talk and to serve his family, friends and ward members. He was always busy preparing Sunday ward programs, stake conference programs, recording numerous missionary farewells, homecomings, funerals, and helpings anyone with their graphic or art needs. He also designed and put together an Austrian Mission memory book for their 20th reunion with photos of all the missionaries from 1960-65 including each missionary's memories of their mission.
He loved to go swimming often with his family and many years of Memorial Day barbeques at home with his cousins and their families, his children and grandchildren. He was so proud of all three sons serving missions and loved to write long letters every week to each one of them.
He had a severe stroke in 2009 which left him in constant pain. However, he still loved walking around the neighborhood and visiting the elderly and less active members of the ward. Still serving, but in more quiet ways.
He was meticulous in everything he did including shaving every day even during the two and a half years he was on Hospice. He never lost his sense of humor and always blew his wife kisses and sometimes grabbed her hand and kissed it when she passed by his bed at night.
Preceded in death by his parents, aunt, and grandmother. Survived by his wife Marie, sons Steven, Michael and Scott, and grandchildren, Chrissy, Brendan, Lydia, Rebecca, William, Stephanie, Christopher, and Laura.
Our thanks to CNS Hospice, especially Steve, Cindy, Matt and Myrna.
Friends and family may call at the Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, for a viewing on Monday, July 21, 2025, from 6-8:00 p.m. Friends and family are invited to attend a graveside service on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, from 12:00 noon to 1:30 p.m.
Marie we are so sad to hear about Peter but so grateful that we have the knowledge of God’s plan for His children and the path back to our Heavenly Father. We won’t be able to come to celebrate his life with you but know that our thoughts and prayers are with you. We love you❤️Dave and Paula Thomas
