Raul Stockseth, age 24, passed away unexpectedly on April 30, 2025, from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. We are deeply saddened by the loss of an extraordinary son, brother, and friend.
Raul was born on July 23, 2000, in Salt Lake City, UT, to Sandra Sanchez and Raul Silva, Sr. He was later adopted by his loving parents, Krista Hansen and Steven Stockseth, on March 9, 2016. He was the oldest of 5 children – 2 sisters and 2 brothers whom he loved and protected fiercely. He graduated from Copper Hills High in 2018 and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps soon after.
He was a spirited young man who lived life on his own terms. He loved hard, played hard, and made no apologies for the choices he made. He was true to himself and didn’t let anyone put him down for it. He also had a softer side and was very empathetic, and it showed through the relationships he cultivated with family and friends. Those who knew him would describe him as loyal to a fault, caring, kind, and selfless.
As the oldest, he felt it was his duty to love and protect those younger than him, especially when it came to his siblings. No one was allowed to mess with them, except for him. He would playfully tease them, laugh with them, comfort them when they were sad, and would promise to beat up anyone who would hurt them.
Raul loved traveling – seeing new places, trying different foods, and getting to experience different cultures. He loved hunting, shooting, riding his motorcycle, going to concerts/festivals, and doing it all with family and friends.
He was a deeply loved son, brother, grandson, nephew, and friend. He is survived by his parents Steven (Emily), Krista (Zach), his younger siblings – Nancy, Noah, and Evelyn – and his many aunts, uncles, and cousins who will miss him tremendously. We are all grateful that we have gained a guardian angel that will always be our protector.
We will have a viewing at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (5360 W 7000 S, West Jordan, UT 84081) on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, from 5:30 to 6:45 PM. The funeral will follow at 7:00 PM. Burial service will be held at the Veterans Memorial in Bluffdale, UT, on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at 11 AM. The funeral will be livestreamed via Zoom and can be accessed by clicking the "Watch Services" button above.
Guestbook/Condolences
I lived around him as a kid in mountain shadows. He was a good guy. I hope he sees all the things up there he wants to see. He was a really good guy. Rest in Peace man
My cousin, I am so sorry to hear of his passing. Great memories as a child together with roselita. Sending love to his family
Dear Nephew Raúl:
As I sit down to write this letter, my heart feels heavy knowing you are no longer with us. Even though I know you won't read these words, I feel compelled to express my thoughts and emotions, hoping they somehow reach you in the vastness of the universe.
Though we did not share many moments together, my love for you has always been a gentle flame in my heart. Life and distance kept us apart, and I often thought of the family gatherings we could have had, filled with laughter and storytelling. I learned of your existence late, but each story I heard about you brought me joy. We may have shared the same blood, but it was your spirit that truly connected us.
I admired the resilience you showed. To overcome challenges that life threw your way, you exhibited a strength that many could only dream of. It warms my heart to know you were embraced by an adoptive family who showered you with love, and that you had friends who stood by your side, sharing in both laughter and tears.
I often dreamed of the day when we would finally connect, to share stories and bridge the gaps created by distance and time. I wish we could have shared our experiences, our dreams, and our hopes. That dream, sadly, will remain unfulfilled, but it will always reside in my heart.
Your departure was too soon, dear Raúl. I believe there is a greater journey ahead of you. Until we meet again in another life, know that you are loved deeply and missed greatly.
With all my love,
Your Aunt,
Delia Monica Silva

My Son Thomas served with Raul (Silva). I am truly sorry for your loss. He was a good friend to my Son, a great guy and will be missed for sure.
We met in our Sunday School class. What a handsome young man of fourteen-fifteen. Life had its ups and downs but he had resilience. That inner strength came out as he learned and was willing to discuss. He was smart and very polite. He was kind. He was self contained but respected by all. I’m glad I know where you are now, you’re in good hands! Until we meet again. Say hello to Brother Pasi if you run inter him. Love, Sister Pasi
Oh, such sadness. I pray his spirit will live on in the loved ones he leaves behind.
