SANDY, UT - Richard Allen Ogden, known as Dick to those close to him, 76, died peacefully in his home Tuesday, December 14, 2021, after long years of battling cancer. Dick was born in 1945, to Ruben C (Pete) Ogden and Beverly A Taylor in Lebanon, IN.

Dick graduated from Lebanon High School in 1964. Shortly after he joined the Air Force serving in areas such as Clark Air Force base in the Philippines as military police and later recruited to the PACAF honor guard in Honolulu, HI.

Life changing events occurred during Dick’s service in the military while stationed at Hickam Air Force Base in Honolulu, HI. Being approached by Christian missionaries and invited to listen to their message of Jesus Christ, he committed to the decision to become a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS), of which he remained a devout and faithful servant to his Savior all his days.

Shortly after joining the LDS Church he met his sweetheart, Cindy, and later married her for time and all eternity in the Okland, CA, LDS temple in 1970. Together they had five children, Aaron, Kristen, Jared, Annsley, and Katy.

Deciding to leave the military after a few years of service, Dick valued education earning a Bachelors in Business from Brigham Young University, a Bachelors in Accounting from the University of Utah, and finally a Masters in Business from Westminister College. With this education he followed through with a 33 year career with the LDS church, working in such areas as accounting, welfare services, and process engineering.

Dick was a man of adventure, frequently camping, backpacking, and hiking different areas of Utah, particularly central to southern Utah, Capital Reef being one of his favorite places to visit. He was also a strong supporter of The Boy Scouts of America, even following through with the Wood Badge program. He took his passion of the outdoors and adventure and shared his knowledge, skill, and experience with his children, grandchildren, youth groups, and close friends leaving a legacy many will remember.

Other hobbies Dick loved to participate in were cross country skiing, snowshoeing, cooking, collecting rare rocks, rock polishing, pencil sketching and painting, reading, and even writing, books, gardening, movie watching, spending money on Amazon, frequent visits to the gas station for a drink, socializing, and being a stellar grandpa.

One of Dick’s greatest joys of life was serving in the LDS Church. He served in many callings, such as Youth Advisor, Sunday School Teacher, Bishop, Stake High Council, Elders quorum, and Minister. One of his most memorable callings was serving with his wife as Senior Missionaries in the Utah Salt Lake City South mission.

Dick is preceded in death by his parents, infant siblings, step-sister Cheryl, mother and father-in-law, and step-father, Cass. He is survived by his eternal companion, Cindy, and five children Aaron (Stephanie), Kristen (Jeff Willyerd), Jared (Becca), Annsley (Brant Burnham), and Katy (Anthony Osborne). He is also survived by 19 beloved grandchildren, brother Guy (Jennifer), sister Cindy, step-mother Margaret, and a number of other relatives, including neighbors of 40+ years that are considered family.

So sorry to hear of Rich’s passing. We have appreciated our long conversations over the years. We had hoped to visit this year however Stan’s stroke canceled those plans. I enjoyed many shared photos. Stan an Rich certainly had great Theological conversations, even though they disagreed on many points they enjoyed the process. I will miss him. Love, Donna Sue
