Listen to Obituary
Richard Herman Snideman passed away peacefully with his family by his side on March 24, 2025.
Richard was born in Beaumont, California to Herman Adam Snideman and Helen Louise Kirby on December 27, 1936. Richard grew up alongside his five siblings in Southern California. After meeting his sweetheart at a church function, Richard and Janet Ruth Rasmussen were married in the Los Angeles temple on August 26, 1960, for their 64 years of marriage and for all time and eternity.
Together with Janet, Richard raised four children in Southern California before they moved their family to Utah in 1972 and their final addition to the family joined them. As extraordinary parents to five children, loving grandparents to 18 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, Richard and Janet built a beautiful life together as he showed a love to the Lord, his country, and his family by serving each in whatever way he could.
Richard knew what it was to be a true disciple of Jesus Christ and showed this each day as a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served tirelessly in multiple church callings throughout his life and worked for several years as an ordinance worker in the Jordan River Temple.
When his oldest son turned eight years old in 1969, Richard became heavily involved in the Boy Scouts of America. He earned several certificates of merit through his continual service of the scouts and helping young men to reach their goals and even earn their Eagle Scout achievements.
Richard spent 40 years of his working life as a Professional Land Surveyor. After retiring, Richard was not one to sit idle and loved to complete wood working projects in the shop in his garage. He would work alongside and patiently include any of his grandchildren who wanted to learn.
Richard's love and devotion for his country ran deep and he showed this love while serving for several years in the Army Reserves. His love for his country was passed down to each of his children and grandchildren, as he would bear witness often to the precious joy of living in this country.
Family was everything to Richard. He loved to be outdoors, fishing, camping, cooking, birdwatching, but everything he did, he wanted his family to be present for. He was a big advocate of getting together for a party for any reason one could think. Richard could spend hours playing card games and putting together puzzles as long as his family was by his side. One would be hard pressed to find another who loved, valued, and adored their family the way that Richard did.
Richard is survived by his wife, eternal companion, and sweetheart Janet, their children - Steve Snideman, Jeff (Sherrie) Snideman, Susy (Wes) Peterson, Sandy (Phil) Christensen, and Carl Lemley. As well as his 18 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and his siblings, John (Eileen) Snideman, George (Debbie) Snideman, and Beverly Snideman.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his two sisters, his daughter, Sheri Lemley, his grandson, Race Peterson, and his great-grandson, Oliver Peterson.
Richard's family would like to thank the nurses, doctors, and all the healthcare workers at Intermountain Medical Center for all the work and care they showed for Richard.
Richard left a mark of love, friendship, and faith in the Lord that is felt by anyone who knew him. His funeral services will be held on March 31, 2025, at 11:00 am at the Latter-day Saint Stake Center at 9331 S. 300 E Sandy, Utah 84070. There will be a viewing held prior to the funeral service from 10:00-10:45 am. Interment will be in Larkin Sunset Gardens.
