With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, and friend, Richard Orville Evershed, at the age of 77, on February 25, 2025. Richard was born to Orville Evershed and Laura Braithwaite Evershed on June 18, 1947, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Richard grew up in the Liberty Park area, where his bright smile and competitive spirit were well-known among his friends as they played baseball and football in the youth leagues. He was especially close to his older brother and sister, Roger and Maxine, and maintained a close, supportive relationship with them his entire life. Richard attended South High School, where he participated in football and student government, graduating in 1965. His easy going personality and friendly nature allowed him to gain many new friends wherever he went. Following high school, Richard attended the University of Utah for one year and then accepted an LDS mission call to serve in the Auckland New Zealand Mission from 1966 to 1968. He had many fond memories of his missionary service and often shared heartwarming anecdotes from his time in New Zealand. Following missionary service, Richard returned to his studies at the University of Utah, where he graduated with a degree in Psychology in 1971. Shortly thereafter, Richard met Susanne Walters, and they began a life together, marrying in 1973. Richard and Susanne raised five children together and established their family in West Jordan, Utah. They later divorced, but maintained a respectful and endearing friendship throughout their lives. Above all things, Richard was a family man, and his life revolved around his children and grandchildren. Whether it was a sporting event, a school event, a church event, or any life event, Richard was always there for his family, and they knew how much he loved them. Professionally, Richard excelled as an Electrical Estimator, contributing his expertise to bid and design work on numerous projects across Utah, California, and other western states. He was a valued employee at several different companies and for many years worked with his brother, Roger. Richard was a devoted reader, finding solace and joy in the pages of classic literature. He possessed a keen intellect and a genuine desire to share his love of books, frequently recommending cherished titles to his children and friends.
Richard is survived by his five children: Pascal (Robyn) Meyer, Jason Evershed, Monique (Jimmy) Richards, Nikki (Ryan) Ostler, and Tommy Evershed, along with 17 grandchildren, three of whom are currently serving LDS missions and 2 great granddaughters. All of his children were able to be at his bedside in his final days to express their love for him and ensure he was comfortable and ready for the journey ahead. Richard's legacy of faith, integrity, and unwavering love will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew him. He now rejoices in a joyous reunion with loved ones who preceded him in death.
A time for visitation and remembrance will be held on Friday, February 28th, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m., with a memorial service to follow at 2:00 p.m. Both will take place at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950 E. 10600 S. Sandy, UT 84092.
For those unable to attend the service in person, the family invites you to join via Zoom. Please click the Watch Service button above.

I have just heard of Richard’s passing. My heart is heavy from this news. He was the Best a Man at my wedding and I have considered him a true friend for sixty years. Unfortunately time and great distance has gotten in the way. We spoke at length on the phone several months ago. I’m so very glad I had that opportunity. I will forever remember many good times with him. We will meet again my good man!
