Rickey Lavern Brown

1959 ~ 2024

Rickey Lavern Brown - a beacon of strength, compassion, and community, departed from this world on March 18, 2024. Rickey left behind a profound legacy of love, service, and unwavering dedication. Born in Estill, South Carolina, on May 24, 1959, Rickey's life journey was one defined by resilience, selflessness, and an unyielding commitment to bettering the lives of others.

Raised amidst the sun-kissed shores of Daytona Beach, Florida, Rickey's childhood was steeped in the joy of sports. From a young age, his passion for athletics blossomed, particularly on the football field, where he shone brightly as a quarterback. Throughout his high school years, Rickey's leadership and talent became a source of inspiration for his teammates and coaches alike.

At the tender age of 18, driven by a profound sense of duty and patriotism, Rickey made the courageous decision to enlist in the United States Navy. Serving his country with honor and distinction, Rickey's time in the Navy further solidified his values of service, sacrifice, and camaraderie.

Following his departure from the Navy, Rickey embarked on a new chapter of his life, relocating to the picturesque landscapes of Utah with his beloved wife and two children. It was here that Rickey's true calling unfolded, as he dedicated over three decades of his life to serving as a case manager in youth corrections for the State of Utah. His tireless efforts and unwavering commitment touched the lives of countless at-risk young men and women, guiding them towards a path of redemption, hope, and opportunity.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Rickey found solace and joy in the great outdoors, where he cultivated a deep connection with nature. Whether tending to his meticulously landscaped yard or exploring the rugged beauty of the Uintah Mountains through hunting, fishing, or camping, Rickey found peace and contentment amidst the beauty of the natural world.

Rickey was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Suzanne Bell-Brown, his mother Pearl B Weaver, his mother-in-law Afesa Adams, and his sister, Darlene. He is survived by his five children Rickey, Rickee (Rico), Mikell, Tanesha & Afesa, twenty-one grandchildren, One Great Grandchild, two brothers (Christopher, Fred) and four sisters (Corinthian, Wendy, Nicole & Janice) along with a host of other cherished family members and friends.

A celebration of Rickey's life will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, 1090 South State Street, Salt Lake City, UT 84111, on March 29th at 11:00 a.m. As we gather to honor his memory, let us remember the profound impact of Rickey's kindness, compassion, and unwavering dedication to serving others. Though he may be gone, his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were touched by his love and generosity. Rest in peace, Rickey Brown. Your legacy will endure for generations to come.

This is truly devastating... Rick was a wonderful amazing man.. He had a heart of gold. I met Rick when I was 15 and very troubled.. He was working at Decker Lake, he was assigned as my case manager.. We clicked instantly. He was like the father I never had.. He always encouraged me to do better.. He believed in me, you have touched many lives... Gone to soon but never forgotten... Rest Easy Rick..

I met Ricky through Ron Harrell when I first began full time in JJS. It was the program First Start where I met him. After that he showed me the ropes and what I needed to do to be okay in this business. Ricky was always real and told me what I needed to hear and not what I wanted to hear. I did and will always appreciate him for that. Class personified!! Rest In Peace Bruh!!
