Robert Dee Page, loving husband, brother, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away on August 14, 2024, at his home in Sandy, Utah. He will long be remembered for his quirky sense of humor, his dedication to his family and his faith, and his demonstrations of love through service and self-sacrifice.
Born on June 17, 1942, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Lola and Robert Seeley Page, he was known in his youth as Bobby D and later as just Bob. He grew up in the Salt Lake Valley but in his adolescent years he lived for a short time in the Washington, D.C., area and graduated from Bladensberg High School in Maryland. Bob later earned his accounting degree from the University of Utah. He served in the LDS Northern Far East Mission, headquartered in Tokyo. He married his sweetheart and eternal companion, June Luck, on September 23, 1964—almost 60 years ago—in the Salt Lake Temple. He referred to her as “the best luck I had in my life.” Together they made their home and raised ten children, first in Los Angeles and then in Millcreek and Sandy, Utah.
Bob enjoyed a career as a successful certified public accountant, working for Peat Marwick (now KPMG) in LA, then Ernst & Ernst (now Ernst & Young) and finally Steiner Corporation (now Alsco) in Salt Lake City. Late in his career he returned to school to earn a master's degree in tax accounting and then taught night classes on the subject at the local community college. He believed in the value of hard work and was beloved by his colleagues and employers.
He was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with an unwavering commitment to and faith in the gospel of Jesus Christ. He served in many callings, including a full-time mission from 1961-1964, as well as a service mission at the Employment Services Center. He also served, at various times, as Sunday School Teacher, Ward Clerk, Ward Librarian and in the Elders Quorum Presidency, Bishopric, Seventy, Stake High Council and High Priests Group. He particularly enjoyed meeting, visiting and getting to know the people he served.
Bob truly loved spending time with his wife, kids and grandkids. He enjoyed being outside, checking on the progress of his tomato plants or sitting with a book by a mountain stream. He had a great appreciation for music—he loved The Tabernacle Choir, most classical music and various types of jazz, and even played the trumpet in his youth. He was an avid reader, especially of books about history, and he enjoyed TV and movies—John Wayne westerns and crime dramas were some of his favorites. He liked watching football games—particularly his alma mater, the University of Utah. He knew every make and model of classic cars. Bob developed a lifelong appreciation for and love of the “old country,” Japan, and its people, food and culture. He enjoyed cooking, baking and experimenting with recipes, including traditional Japanese dishes. He was an excellent chef but he also had an appreciation for unsophisticated concoctions, like saltine crackers in milk. He inherited a dry wit from his father and in turn passed it on to his children. Like any good dad, he was quick with puns and wordplay, often inventing silly new words or phrases. And he could always summon his kids with his signature whistle.
His love was unconditional and his generosity unlimited—he would gladly give you the old shirt off his back. He looked for and saw the best in everyone he met, and he would greet friends and neighbors with a handshake and a kind smile. Everyone who knew him felt his quiet humility and gentle warmth. His truly was a life worthy of emulation.
Bob is survived by his wife June, children Robert (Isabel), Stefanie Pohlsander (Gerdt), David (Caroline), Matthew (Annabelle), Adam (Vonda), Andrew (Jennifer), Ethan and Rachael Richardson, 27 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and siblings Elayne Bridge (Brent), Robynn Rasmussen (Eric) and Greg (Carol). He was preceded in death by his daughters Jenifer Jones (Charles) and Alison Bello (Clair), parents Robert and Lola, and brother Ronald (Sandra).
The services for the celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, August 24, visitation at 11:00, service at 12:00, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 89 E 11000 S, Sandy, UT 84070. Those who can’t attend may stream the service live at the following link:
