Celebration of Life

Salt Lake City, UT – Our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Bob Pembroke, passed away peacefully from cancer, surrounded by family on November 10, 2024, at the age of 89.

He was born on February 17, 1935, to Adrian Herbert and Camille Stohl Pembroke in Salt Lake City, Utah. He graduated from East High School where he played football. He continued with football at the University of Utah where he played linebacker and center for the Utes. Bob earned a degree in Business from the University of Utah where he was also a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. While at college, he met the love of his life, Linda Scheel, to whom he was married for 65 years.

After college graduation and a brief stint in the army, he joined the local family business, Pembroke’s, Inc., established in 1883 by his great-grandfather. He later worked with his father as an Independent Dealer for 3M Business Machines and Office Supplies for the State of Utah. He first worked as a salesman and eventually succeeded his father, Adrian, as President.  This work gave him the opportunity to enjoy many trips with 3M Company, including having dinner at the Great Hall in Beijing and dinner in South Africa with the head of the Zulu Nation. Bob was proud to be a salesman and was always fair and honest in his dealings with others. He was a long-time member of the Rotary Club of Salt Lake, where he served as an officer. He was an Honorary Colonel for the Utah National Guard, and also put in many hours as a volunteer, cooking at the St. Vincent De Paul Soup Kitchen. He felt that his fellow volunteers were the “salt of the earth”, and loved visiting with the clients.

He was a passionate fly fisherman who traveled to places like Russia, Alaska, and Patagonia, where he enjoyed fishing with friends and especially with his son, Richard. However, his favorite was fishing the Madison River and near his cabin on the shores of Hebgen Lake, Montana.

Bob is survived by his wife Linda; his four children, Victoria (Chris) Davison, Richard (Liz) Pembroke, Michael Pembroke, and Christine (Adam) Smart; six grandchildren, Cory Jackson, Tyler Jackson, Thomas Pembroke, James Pembroke, Nicholas Pembroke, and Evelyn Smart. He is also survived by two beloved step-granddaughters, Chase Jackson and Kimberly Davison, as well as two step-great-grandchildren, Surya and Sam Srivatsavaya.

A Memorial Service will be held on December 6th at 10:30 a.m. at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 East 1300 South. The family will be available to visit before the service.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to Huntsman Cancer Foundation in Bob’s name

Linda, Vicki, Michael and Christine,

Bob will always be a special memory of our living next door for 23 years! His welcome when we moved in, his boisterous hellos from across the fence, his fly-rod testing on the front lawn in December, and his great sense of humor will never be forgotten. We are so sorry for your loss, and also sorry that we aren’t there for his service. We are thinking about all of you.

- Bill and Kathy Godwin

Linda and family,
I am sorry for your loss of Bob and your father. As I am sure you are aware, I was married to Vic Day, a friend of Bob’s and I fondly remember a party at your lovely home when I brought crepe Suzette and was so nervous! I had never done flambé , before! Thank you for the memory! God Bless. Sheridan and Tom Metcalf.🙏
