Listen to Obituary

Roger William Sims, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on May 3rd, 2024, at the age of 60 after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Born on December 15th, 1963, in Salt Lake City, Utah, Roger was the son of Rowell Warren Sims and Carolyn June Aldous. He found his forever love in Linda Kay Scharman, and they were married on May 1st, 1987, in the Salt Lake Temple.

Roger possessed an exceptional talent for craftsmanship, able to fix anything brought his way. But his greatest joy came from spending time with his family. He especially cherished whisking his wife, Linda, away to Disneyland and Walt Disney World for vacations. A lifelong and devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, his faith was a cornerstone of his life. His legacy as an Eagle Scout is continued with his grandkids, who lovingly crowned him the "Best Champion Paper Airplane Folder."

Roger is survived by his wife, Linda; his children, Elizabeth (Christian), Giles (Kayla), and Weston (Lis), his puppy, Spock; his adoring grandchildren, Nathaniel, Sebastian, and Charlotte; his mother, Carolyn; siblings, Judy (Kevin), Shari, Lou (Denise), Kathy, and Kevin; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Rowell; brother-in-law, Michael; and grandparents, Royal, Thelma, Joseph, and Hazel.

Funeral services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (12232 South 3200 West, Riverton, UT) at 11:00 am on Friday, May 10th. A viewing will be held prior to the service beginning at 9:00 am. Interment will follow at Mountain Memorial Estates (3115 Bengal Blvd, Cottonwood Heights, UT).

Roger was one of my good friends growing up along 6200 S. in Salt Lake City. We hung out during our high school years together. He was a good friend and I am very sad to hear that he passed away from cancer at such a young age. My sincere condolences to his family. I’m sure he was a wonderful man and father.

All our love from the Haws family. Roger is a gentle giant with never an unkind word or an unpleasant interaction with anyone. He leaves a hole as big as his heart in this world. We are so sorry for this loss.

Roger was one of the first friends that I made when I came to the Fluke building in American Fork.

He always came with a twinkle in his eye and a warm and welcoming demeanor.
It was inspiring to me that he always brought a smile and optimism to those around him, even with his many health struggles it did not seem to slow down his ability to spread good energy. I'm grateful and honored to have met him and I hope your family finds peace and comfort through this challenging time.

Roger is truly a gifted and loving man who our Father in Heaven, and your family can ever be proud of.

I appreciated the time I spent working with Roger over the past 20 years. Roger was and always will be a positive and enthusiastic person. He could fix anything that needed to get back up and running. I enjoyed the stories he would tell about growing up in the SLC area. When he would bring his best friend Spock into work, everyone had a better day. He wore some awesome Hawaiian shirts to work. I miss you Roger and I'm sure we will meet again. My sincere condolences go out to the Sims family

I just wanted to add my voice to those of I'm sure so many others of condolences at this time. Roger is such an amazing man and was a great and helpful mentor to me. He was always ready to answer a question or help with a problem. He was aware of me and my needs and that meant a great deal to me. His upbeat spirit, patience, and continually tireless efforts forward are an inspiration to me. I will miss my friend.

I worked with Roger side by side from 2007 to 2017 at Fluke, and I don’t ever recall him having a bad day, and he was always willing to share his talents with others without hesitation. Roger truly had a deep love for his family, and he was always very excited and proud when his children were achieving their personal goals. I want to express my deepest condolences to the Sims family.

I worked with Roger for what seemed like a lifetime. Roger was always willing to look at the positive and come up with new better ways of looking at the situation or life. He will be missed at work, but I am sure he will do just fine in his new role in the most important work. May his Family find peace at this time.

Roger and I worked together for more than 20 years. He was the sort of guy who made work feel more like a family, and he made me proud to be part of a company with people like that. Roger was very good at his job, but that is not what I remember most about him. He was the kindest most positive person around. Nothing could keep him down, not even cancer. He lifted everyone around him. Having met his family, I know he doesn't just do that at work, and I assume he is still at it on the other side. He will be missed very much. I think the best way to remember him, is to try to be a little more like him.

Roger was a good friend in High School.
Among the memories, there's a fun one of him from a church dance where he was having fun, but was also watching out for his sister.
Being a little concerned about the guy she was hanging out with, Roger asked me if I would please go over and ask her to dance, and perhaps divert her attention from this guy.
So I walked up to Kathy, where she sat on this guy's lap, and I invited her to dance. Although they both looked at me a little weird, she accepted the invitation and came out to the dance floor with me.
Roger was appreciative of that as family was always very important to him.

He was a very good man and will be missed by many.

Roger was the best! He was kind and friendly to everyone he met. Unless you cut him off in traffic. He had such a joy about him and always had a smile on his face. He enjoyed his family and his work family to the fullest and left us all with a beautiful legacy of friendship and happiness. He has been a true leader and was so devoted to his family. He brought the calm to every storm and the answer to every question. He could fix, build and design anything needed and was truly talented in everything all the way from construction and building to technology and engineering. He called himself a jack of all trades, master of none. We observed him a master of anything and everything needed. Always willing to try and never gave up! He loved his mission in Rome Italy and listening to him speak the Italian language was also a delight to all of us. He made everything fun and was the most genuine and loving person. We his family will dearly and deeply miss him and we will forever cherish him and honor him by trying a little harder to do a little better and always smile! Love you my sweetheart Roger forever and always in my heart and by my side. Love, Linda
