Rosalyn was welcomed back into the loving arms of her caring husband, daughter, mother and father and other loved ones on Friday, March 25, 2022. She was born to Eldon and Gladys Barnes on May 7, 1927, in Lehi, Utah. She didn’t know it at the time, but her long-term childhood friendship with Barbara Mumford would lead to her meeting her future husband, Ferris, although she considered him one of those “awful” brothers of Barbara who teased her growing up.
Rosalyn married Ferris on August 2, 1946 in the Salt Lake Temple following his return from World War II. They settled in Sandy where they raised two daughters, Michele and Teresa, and were happily married for over 62 years. During the time they shared together, they loved exploring southern Utah’s red rock country, frequently visited their cabin near Fruitland, and filled both of their homes with Ferris’s handcrafted wood creations. Many of which have been passed down to family members and are still enjoyed to this day.
Rosalyn loved deeply and was sometimes unconventional in her thoughts, beliefs, and opinions although she always kept a positive and grateful attitude. She was a principled and courageous woman in a time when few were. She found happiness in simple pleasures like birdwatching and yard work, but her biggest priority and proudest accomplishment was being a loving wife and cherishing her two daughters. Rosalyn continued to play a treasured role in the lives of those in our small but devoted family as well as those of her friends she held close.
She is survived by her daughter, Teresa Ellis, grandson Justin, his wife Kelsey, great-granddaughters Alexandra and Brianna, and important family additions including the Moons and the Days. Special thanks to Wayne and Cathie Wagstaff for the care and love they have shown Rosalyn over the years.
Graveside services will be held at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South) in Sandy on Friday, April 1, 2022 at 2:00 pm.
Our dearest Mother, Gam, and friend – you will most certainly be missed but never forgotten.
Guestbook/Condolences
I had the pleasure of meeting Rosalyn when my daughter-in-law and I delivered food to her. We became friends and had wonderful talks and visits. She's one of the most amazing women I have ever met. I'm going to miss her so much.
I'm so sorry for your loss.
Rosalyn was a great neighbor to me growing up. I recall good talks, her fun laugh, and Christmas apple juice. She provided me my first couch upon getting married, light blue velvet 💙 I will always remember her kindness.
Justin and Teresa, I didn't know Rosalyn had passed away until I tried to visit her today and found the house being emptied. I don't subscribe to a newspaper anymore and don't see obituaries. I'm so sorry I missed seeing her again. I wish so much that I had made the time to stop by for one more visit. She was a lovely and very unique person. She appreciated the beauties of this world more than anyone I have ever known, and tried to influence me to smell the roses and look around and enjoy the world around me. She was a loyal and dear friend and was content to enjoy our friendship by "catching up" on our birthdays and Christmas, because of my crazy schedule. She adored all of her family and Kelsie's family also. I will always miss her and her influence will always be with me. When I walked into the house today I found the large family portrait that she treasured on the floor, leaning against the hearth. I asked the people who were milling through the house if the family was returning to get it and was told no, that if I didn't want it to be thrown away I needed to take it. I brought it to my home to keep it safe until I can get it to you. Please call or text me at 801-608-2965 or email me so I can arrange to bring it to one of you. I'm so grateful Rosalyn has been freed from her hearing and vision loss and having to be so slowed down by her physical frailties. I'm so grateful for her!
