  • Rowland Clement Senior passed away peacefully on December 12, 2020 with his wife of 72 years by his side. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on February 24, 1928 to Clement Senior and Leila Rawlinson Trumbo. He grew up in Salt Lake and graduated from West High School. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1945 and served until 1949 and is remembered as one of the great veterans of World War II. He married his sweetheart Lois Jeanne Vincent in the Salt Lake Temple on March 9, 1949. They bought a home in Rose Park where they raised their family and it is still their home today. Rowland sang with the Tabernacle Choir for five years and had a beautiful baritone voice. He used his talent throughout his life to bless others, performing together with his wife’s accompaniment on the piano. Their talents complimented one another. He worked as a draftsman for Chicago Bridge and Iron until he retired, and post-retirement at Rocky Mountain Fabrication. Rowland and Lois served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and were avid Temple attenders, doing ordinance work in over 50 different Temples. Their greatest delight was doing everything together. They loved to travel, make quilts for grandchildren, do woodworking projects and work in their garden. He was actively involved in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for his entire life, serving as a Bishop and in various other callings. Their home had a constant revolving door of family and friends who were always welcomed with broad smiles and warm hearts. His example and influence for good will be an enduring legacy for generations.

He has four beloved brothers, Paul Senior, and Bryan, Wayne and Mark Ethington. Rowland is survived by his wife Lois, his daughters Lynne Tolman (Glen), Jayne Johnson (Greg), Mary Lois “Marn” Coles (Mike) and his son David Senior (Shelly). Together they have 24 grandchildren, 51 great grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

A public viewing will be held Wednesday, December 16, 2020 from 6 PM to 8 PM at Larking Mortuary at 260 East South Temple in Salt Lake City Utah. To the Rowland Senior Family--
I honor Rowland as one of the finest men I have known--
He was always positive in his attitude and was very friendly, I remember his big smile.
I worked with him for many years with CBI --He was very helpful to me as a young Engineer.
He worked for me many years at Rocky Mountain Fab--A very valued and important part of our success.
Most importantly I value him as a friend. He always had good ideas and I valued his judgment.
He would say and I quote him -- "Cheers my friend"

with Rowland for a number of years at CBI. We shared some good times together.
He had enormous strength during the time of your terrible accident and as you recovered.

    Dear Lois and Family:
I was so sorry to hear of your sweet husband and father passing away. Lois, I just sent you a Christmas car telling you that you and him remind me of those that are in the "Dick Clark Club" (never seeming to age. Your family picture on the Christmas photo you sent was very nice and one that I am sure you'll be treasuring the picture, time and the many memories you and your sweet family have made together. I love all of you very much and think of the time that I visited often when you were in St. Marks after your accident and I spent time with you on breaks and lunches visiting with you. Please know that I love you dearly and you are in my thoughts and prayers as you and your kids go through this difficult time. May God bless all of you and give you peace and reassurance of Rollie being in a better place and waiting for you, Lois dear. Marilyn called today and told me of your loss. We as a family send our love & prayers.
    Love Always,
    Dianne Cushing

What a wonderful man. I am so grateful for his influence in my life. I will never forget Lagoon day and he and my mother riding the roller coaster together because my dad and Lois would not. I am thankful I knew him.
