Ruth Ann (Dissly) Smith passed away, surrounded by family, on July 14, 2022 in Boise, Idaho, where she lived the past seven years. She was born on October 17, 1937 in Zanesville, Ohio, the third of five children born to John C. and Katherine (Avon) Dissly. The family lived in Ohio, Louisiana, Arkansas, Texas and Oklahoma.
She graduated from Central High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1956. While working in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma she met her future husband, Willard (Bill) G. Smith. They married in 1957 and were soon off on their military (Air Force) journey around the world for the next 19 years. They lived in Texas, Turkey, Wisconsin, Indiana, Guam, New Mexico, Colorado, New York and Germany before settling in Salt Lake City, Utah. Along the way they were blessed with three daughters and two sons (the second passing away shortly after birth).
Ruth Ann was a great seamstress, cake decorator, cook and baker. Over the years she had several jobs including teacher’s aide and secretary. She enjoyed her time at the University of Utah where she was a secretary for the Student Affairs Department. She was also very proud of her work with Make-A-Wish as well as her involvement with the Utah Post-Polio group.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Willard G. Smith, sister Mary K. (Dissly) Freiner, brother Warren E. Dissly, son James Allan Smith, and grandchildren Charlie Henri and Jennifer Henri.
She is survived by children Deborah S. Henri (Charles), Bellevue, Nebraska; Cynthia L. Koster, Boise, Idaho; Andrea K. Richards (Clark Perzedeh), Magna, Utah; John C. Smith (Tami), South Jordan, Utah; grandchildren Stephanie Brazell, Matthew Smith, Steven Henri, Melissa Koster, Nicholas Smith, David Richards and Allison Henri; great grandchildren Kyler Smith, Caelin Brazell, Jezebelle Smith, Evan Brazell, Aiden Henri and Nora Henri; brothers Charles W.Dissly and John W. Dissly.
Memorial Services will be held on August 20th at 2:00 PM at Larkin Sunset Gardens (1950 E. Dimple Dell Road (106th South), Sandy, Utah. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Utah.
