  • Ryan David Williams was born June 30, 1975, in Provo, Utah and passed away unexpectedly August 17, 2021, on the beautiful ocean shore of his beloved resort, the Maya Jade in Guatemala. Ryan, born to David and Marilyn Darley Williams, lived all his growing up years in Sandy, Utah, playing basketball with his dad, friends, and brothers every spare minute that he wasn’t perfecting the “art” of pranks. He graduated from Alta High School, class of 1993, and later from BYU. Ryan served an LDS mission to the Guatemala North mission, a call that would shape his entire life and that of his family. He met his future wife, Marci Apperson, his freshman year at BYU and after 3 ½ years of letter writing (Marci served in Paraguay after Ryan’s mission), the two were married in the Jordan River Temple. They have been blessed by 4 beautiful children. Ryan was so proud of each of his children and encouraged their passions.

Although Ryan had many successful business accomplishments, his greatest passions, besides his family were the Book of Mormon and serving the people of Guatemala and Belize through creating jobs and training for myriads of people. He hosted humanitarian trips to help build schools, houses, libraries, support orphanages, medical facilities and help educate people on how to manage their precious ecosystems for growth. His foundation, First Desk, fulfills a basic need by having local companies build children’s school desks, and delivering them to various schools in villages in several countries. In the aftermath of many catastrophic volcanic eruptions, Ryan directed all available vehicles be filled with rice, beans, water and diapers to be delivered to desperate villages. He, along with his wife, family and partners served some of the “least” of these according to worldly standards but saw his Central American brothers and sisters for their true worth- warriors that needed encouragement and opportunity.

For all their married life, Ryan and Marci loved and served the Hispanic community in Eagle Mountain, Utah. His family’s lives were enriched with this opportunity. He served as a Bishop in their Hispanic ward for many years and treasured this time.
Ryan’s business partner, Ryan McCoy said in tribute:

Nobody dreamed bigger than Ryan. Whether in business or humanitarian causes, he was the ultimate visionary. He knew how to assemble a team of ordinary people and make them all-stars. He could see opportunity in what seemed to be insurmountable challenge. He was patient, generous, passionate, and kind. He was incredibly intelligent, creative and insightful. He always believed in abundance- the concept that there is a world in which everybody can win and prosper. He taught us all to be better, to reach higher, and do more.

Ryan leaves behind his beautiful wife, Marci; his children (whom he loved with all his heart), Josh (AmberLee), Heidi, Elijah and Noah; his parents, David and Marilyn; his siblings Brandi (Doug) Johnson, Travis (Tenille) Williams, Ben (Susie Bone) Williams and Tanner (Brooke) Williams. Also survived by his mother and father-in-law Bob and Debbie Apperson and Marci’s siblings. To his business partners and friends both here and in Guatemala- he loved you all as brothers.

Ryan loved flip flops. We love flip flops. Our flip flops would be happy to see your flip flops at the services. He also loved fishing. Please, do not bring fish.

If Ryan gave you the shirt off his back (and he would), it would say Go Jazz or BYU!

I am so soo sorry for your loss. Ryan sounds like an angel. A funny, fun, silly, but very faithfilled and effective at helping, angel. The funeral service was the most inspirational funeral - or even any talk ever - I have ever been to. I feel so blessed to have been able to attend (by zoom). All our love and prayers are with Marci, and the children, and Marilyn and David and Brandi and all the boys. All of the family.

I am so sad to hear this news. To Marci and kids, you had a great man in your life, you are in my prayers. To Partner Fusion, you lost a great man, he made your company a family, and I am glad to have known him. He will be missed by many, probably most of all in Guatemala where he loved unconditionally.
