Shaylin Rae Parker Engel (37) returned to her Heavenly Father on Saturday, January 11, 2025. After a short but valiant battle with an infection she passed away from complications of septic shock.

Shaylin was born on August 7, 1987. It was a beautiful, sun filled day which was fitting because that’s who Shaylin was. She was as beautiful inside as she was on the outside. She was filled with light and love that touched everyone around her. Wherever she went, she was vivacious and friendly. Even as a small child, she would walk up to anyone, young or old, and make a friend. She blessed the lives of many people and she was blessed with many wonderful friendships.

She grew up in West Valley City, Utah where she went to Valley Crest and Pioneer Elementary schools. She then attended West Lake Jr. High and Granger High School. She was always an excellent student and loved participating in cheer, dance and drama. She sang in many choirs, often accompanying them, as she was a talented pianist. She was also involved in LDS Seminary and served on the Seminary Council.

Shaylin went to BYU-Idaho where she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education with a Mathematics Endorsement. While there, she found more things that she loved doing including playing drums and ballroom dance. She also found her very best friend and eternal companion, David Allen Engel.

Shaylin and David were married for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on August 17, 2007. Together they welcomed five wonderful children into the world.

The day Shaylin married Dave she began doing what she wanted most in the world, being a wife and a mother. She always knew Dave was her soul mate. She loved her children dearly. She wanted them to learn everything they needed to be the best they could be. She home schooled them and was very involved in the home schooling community; even helping write some home school curriculum. She instilled in them her love for music by teaching them to play the piano. She did her best to teach them how to work and be productive. She expected them to be right beside her working in her gardens and canning and preparing meals and taking care of the home and yard.

Shaylin had many hobbies that she loved. Every year she planted flowers and a garden. She loved watching them grow and was excited to use the produce each year. She became an avid quilter, making several beautiful, pieced and hand stitch, quilts for her children’s beds over the years. She loved taking her children on outings to the park, to museums, to the zoo, anywhere they could have fun or learn something new and wonderful. She loved to take her children camping, often to a favorite spot on the east side of Mount Timpanogos where she had camped several times as a child with her family. She loved to cook for her family and was always on the lookout for new recipes.

Shaylin was a life long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Later-day Saints. Over the years she served in callings in the Young Women’s, Primary, and Relief Society organizations. Shaylin had a strong testimony and love for Jesus Christ and she diligently strove to be a true disciple.

Shaylin is survived by: her husband - David Engel; her five children - April, Paige, Levi, Aaron, and Emery; her parents - Brian and LeeAnn Parker, brother - Heath (Melissa) Parker, sister - Shasta Parker; her father and mother-in-law - Ray and Jeanne Engel; sister-in-law – Lori Engel; brothers-in-law – Troy (Heather) Engel, Chris (Karol) Engel, Dan (Allison) Engel, Michael (Courtney) Engel, Matthew (Kristen) Engel as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her Grandparents – DeRay and Cleone Parker and Eldon and Patsy Dayley.

The family would like to thank extended family and friends for the outpouring of love and support we have felt.

Funeral services will be held at Noon on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at the Eagle Mountain Central Stake Center located at 1407 East Sheps Ridge Road in Eagle Mountain, Utah. My heart and prayers go out to her families. We loved having Shaylin coming over to our house to play and hang out with my girls. She always had a strong sweet spirit about her and got long with everyone and was friendly to all ages. Shaylin will be greatly missed!

Shaylin was one of my favorite people during college. We took several classes together, most memorably Advanced Writing. We bonded during those years over infertility struggles and she often expressed her great desire to be a mother. Her beautiful optimistic light helped me more than I can every express. May your family find peace and comfort during this time.

When Shaylin was a teenager, we would often have her come and babysit our children. She was their favorite babysitter, and ours as well. I knew that she would one day become an amazing mother to some very lucky children. My heart goes out to her family. I pray the Lord will bless them, especially her children and husband, with an added measure of His love.

I am so sorry for your loss. I hope my memory of Shaylin makes you smile: my only interaction with her is the day I gave her a ride home from an after-school activity when she and my daughter, Lani, were in about sixth grade. To my best recollection, they came out of the school, each with her head covered by the project she had made out of paper; it surrounded the whole head, so as to block the eyes. I chuckled as I watched them clumsily make their way to the curb. They were laughing uncontrollably by the time they climbed into my car. Shaylin undoubtedly has left positive impressions like this on many people.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Our son Cory attended Pioneer, West Lake and Granger with Shaylin. (He was born July 10, 1987, about 27 days before her.) He is in Texas and texted us to say that for her to have died was "horrible" and that she was "always" a nice person.
