Steven Demke English, 73, our beloved husband, father, papa, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, January 21, 2022. Steve was born on February 29, 1948 to Fred and Evelyn English in Salt Lake City. Being a leap year baby, he had recently celebrated his 18th birthday. After graduating from Granite High School in 1966, he served a mission in Samoa for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for nearly three years. During that time, he fell in love with the Polynesian people and the islands. He loved to serve others and continued to do so throughout his life. Steve had an unwavering faith in his Savior and loved to serve in his church callings. He served in many leadership positions over the years. He loved serving as an ordinance worker at the Oquirrh Mountain temple, but his favorite calling was serving in the Primary. He was a man of God, a true example of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

He met the love of his life, Marlene, and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple on April 20, 1973. They were blessed with five beautiful children, Jared (Erin) English, Angela (Dan) Galli, Melissa (Chip) Galloway, Scott (Ali) English, Rebecca (Doug) Anderson, and 17 grandchildren. His family was his greatest joy. His home was filled with love and laughter and he welcomed all who entered with a smile and open arms. He had a special way of making everyone feel important and loved.

Steve had a passionate love affair with peppermint ice cream, cherry chocolates, steak, and Dr. Pepper. He loved movies, traveling, music, theater, and family gatherings. He enjoyed singing and performing in community theater with his wife and kids. He was a gifted artist and he shared that talent with his grandchildren. Dad was his own favorite comedian. Trying to have a serious conversation with him was a difficult task as he was always ready to comment with a joke. His sense of humor was ever at the forefront of his conversations.

Papa will be missed dearly. But we feel a peaceful assurance that he was welcomed into the loving and open arms of our Savior and happily reunited with his parents, his brother Fred, and sister Susan.

Our family would like to thank the staff of doctors, nurses and volunteers at Riverton, LDS, and McKay-Dee hospital who made such a difficult time a little easier through their kindness and compassion. You went beyond what anyone could ever ask.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM and Thursday, January 27, 2022 from 9:30 – 10:30 AM at the South Jordan Country Crossing Stake Center, 11122 Black Hawk Drive, South Jordan UT. Funeral service to follow 11:00 AM. Interment will be at Larkin Sunset Gardens in Sandy, UT. To share a memory with the family or to watch the services online, please visit larkincares.com.

In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes can be made directly to the immediate family to assist with funeral expenses.

Dear English Family,
I would like to offer my condolences and say that your family is in my prayers. I was privileged to serve with Brother English in the Oquihrr Mountain Temple. Even though he was more experienced and knowledgeable than me, he always made me feel important, asking for my opinion and giving me compliments. I will miss his kind, funny, and gracious presence.

With love,

My deepest love and sympathy to all the English fami!y. Steve was always the one person i looked up to and had great respect for him. I knew him and his family growing up and he was In my ward. I was blessed to Sit next to him at our passed class reunion a few months ago. I met his lovely wife and we caught up on family. Steve was raised in what I would call the ideal family. Lots of kids and so much love in their home. I remember telling his father that Steve was almost perfect. He was always kind and I never ever saw him sin. I always remembered his birthday being every four years. I have no doubt that he will reach the celestial kingdom. I wish I lived close enough to attend his funeral.
I am glad I can watch it. May God bless all of you with deep felt love

Dear Melissa,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you; you and all your family gave a beautiful tribute and testimony of a true disciple of Christ. As I listened to the eulogies, a scripture came to my mind: Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Our Best Regards,
Richard, Gail, and Kinzie
