Our dear mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin & friend, Susan Alice Price Hood passed away Sunday, September 21, 2025 after complications resulting from a sudden illness. She was surrounded by family as her spirit departed this earthly life. We find comfort knowing that she is reunited with her husband, parents, and many beloved family members & friends. We cherish fond memories of her and the unconditional love for us she expressed through kind words and selfless acts of service. She will be greatly missed.
A native of Northern California, Susan was born in Napa, California on October 31, 1941 to Charles M. Price & Flora M (Goldman) Price. She was raised in Napa and spent various years of her life living in the San Francisco Bay Area, Huntington Beach, Sacramento area, Provo, Utah, and was a 40 year resident of Bountiful, Utah.
Susan was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved her Savior, Jesus Christ, & strived to emulate his kindness in service to others. Despite battles with her health, she served diligently in numerous church callings for many years in California and Utah, including Relief Society President, Mutual (Young Women’s) President, & Primary President, Cub Scout Den Mother, Sunday School teacher, Primary chorister, & choir director. For a period of time, she was a docent at a local museum in downtown Salt Lake City and loved giving guided tours to the public. She was a self-taught artist, filling blank canvases with colorful oil paints, acrylics, & watercolors. She was a certified Rosemaling Master artist, skilled in the Folk Art form of Tole Painting, and taught art classes for all ages. Her hands cross-stitched, crocheted, and sewed many blankets, pillows, articles of clothing, & a custom wedding gown. Susan was also a self-taught pianist & guitarist. A cruel irony surfaced later in her life when the painfully debilitating disease of Rheumatoid Arthritis crippled her skilled hands, making most of these enjoyable hobbies impossible for her to continue.
Susan was in the 1960 graduating class at Napa High School in Napa, CA where she was a varsity cheerleader. She attended early morning seminary before school, often having to walk a number of miles from her home in the rural hills & vineyards to the church near town. She had a beautiful singing voice, and with her Price sisters would perform at numerous local events and church functions. She met the love of her life, Robert Hood, in her senior year, and they were married for time & eternity in the Los Angeles LDS Temple exactly one week after her graduation. In her later years of life, she enjoyed writing stories of her time growing up in Napa & lessons learned from her experiences. She filled her home with inspirational music, and taught her children to sing & harmonize her favorite hymns. Our family will miss hearing her words following every “good-bye” over the phone or following a visit; “I love you more than life itself.”
Susan is survived by her 3 children, James (Janet), Dianna, & Brad. 9 Grandchildren: Jennica (Jason) Larsen, Lauren Van Petten, Miranda Webb, Dallin Webb, Sarah Hood, Spencer (Jamie) Hood, Nathan (Aubrey) Hood, Stephen (Emma) Hood, & Natalie (Monte) Taylor. 10 great grandchildren: Riley, Liam, Quinn, Aiden, Chloe, Weston, Ivy, Eastyn, Baylor, & Ryan. Sister Mary Jane Pearson & brother-in-law Owen Pearson, sister-in-law JoAnne Hood, brother-in-law Jack McIver, 26 nieces & nephews, many great nieces & nephews, & numerous cousins. Proceeded in death by her husband of 60 years, Robert W. Hood, parents Charles & Flora Price, sisters Florraina (Jim) Litchfield, Dolores (Leon) Harrison, Bonnie (Harold) Davis, Molly Price, Betty McIver, & Jenny Lind Price, & Brother Charles Price; Parents-in-law Clifford Sr. & Grace (Epps) Hood, and brothers-in-law Clifford (Fern) Hood, & Darrell Hood.
