Susan returned to her Heavenly Father, February 21, 2025, hoping to be together with her husband Shirrell L. Larsen, to whom she was sealed in the Salt Lake Temple, February 2, 1968. She was born August 24, 1940, in Oakland, California, and lived with her parents, Douglas Brim and Winifred Nye Brim and her two brothers, Doug and Fred, and her sister, Carol, in San Francisco. When her mother became ill, she came to live in Salt Lake City with her beloved great aunt, Elizabeth Harding. She was baptized at the age of 8 and has since been a faithful and active member of her church.

In her twenties, Susan attended the University of Utah after graduating from East High; received a B.A. in French/business (1962) and an M.A. in French literature/philosophy (1967). While attending college, she studied piano, and she also worked part-time using her shorthand and typing skills. In 1965, while taking classes, she met her future husband, Shirrell, who was teaching logic at the U. She also studied abroad in Quebec (1960) and in Paris twice, 1961 including during a memorable 1963-64 year (with her friend Marlena) of European train travel, Sorbonne study, staying with a French family, museums, parks, and operas. She also taught French at Hillcrest High, Bountiful Jr., and Rowland Hall-St. Mark's School. In her 30s, she started work as a career counselor and continued until she retired in 2009 as Assistant Director of the University of Utah Career Services office, interrupted for some leisure time, and also work in Career Services at Rutgers (New Jersey), and a year as a public relations assistant at the Utah Symphony.

Susan and Shirrell were able to enjoy 12 unhurried trips to Western Europe in the 1980s and 1990s, and also frequently traveled to NYC and California, enriching their minds and enlivening their spirits, while also enjoying their home and pets. In 2010, Susan became a full-time and devoted caregiver for her husband before his death, June 29, 2013. She is survived by her siblings, Doug Brim, Fred Brim, and Carol Sike, cousins, and many nieces and nephews.

A viewing will be held Friday, February 28th, 2025, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 E 1300 S, Salt Lake City, Utah, and a graveside service Saturday, March 1st at 10:00 am at Willard City Cemetery, 470 Main Street, Willard, Utah.

The family wishes to thank Susan’s caregivers at Huntsman Hospital and Huntsman at Home Hospice.

Susan Larsen was a dear friend, As a private person, she did not share all her accomplishments in her life, but her
refinement and noble character shone through all my interactions with her. I will dearly miss her, as will all who were fortunate to know her. At long last she will be reunited with Sherrill, her loving husband.

Susan loved to hear me refer to her as "my opera buddy." We saw so many operas together in the past few years and she was always such a wonderful person with whom to enjoy every one of them. We were also bound together by our mutual love of the French language and culture. Merci, Susan, de tous les chers souvenirs. Je me souviendrai de toi à tout jamais.

Susan was my dear friend for the past 45 years. I have wonderful memories of our attending Ballet West, the Messiah, and the symphony together. When I moved to Idaho we kept in touch and for the past several years there were weekly telephone calls. We often discussed the movies that we had watched for Susan had a vast knowledge of the best of foreign and American films. She also loved history and would regale me with historical facts! Susan was a special friend whom I greatly admired for her kindness, generosity, intellect, beauty and grace, I will sorely miss her. My heartfelt condolences to her dear family. Farewell, my friend!

Susan and I were neighbors. I live in the condo just south of Susan's. I used to take my dog Roxy to visit her and we'd talk about travels and memories and books and friends.

We were also great friends because of our decade long lunch group. We'd go to Market Street in Cottonwood and even had a regular table! We'd laugh and talk politics and family.

I've been sad that due to my parents hospitalizations I wasn't able to visit much lately.

I miss Susan. She was amazing, kind, and really really brave in the last couple years.

Heavenly Father,

We come to you in faith, asking for peace and comfort for Aunt Susan as she approaches the end of this life. Please grant her courage, calmness, strength and reassurance, knowing that your plan is perfect and through Jesus Christ, we can all be reunited with you.

Bless Aunt Susan with your loving presence and the peace of the Holy Spirit. Help us all, her loved ones, to find peace, strength, and comfort in your release of her from this earthly life. Let us be comforted, having Aunt Susan feel our love and us feel her love, and trust in the eternal promises and your divine plan that she will be made whole soon and we will see her again in the resurrection.

We pray this in the name of Jesus Christ, as we move in faith together to hold each other up and guide Aunt Susan through this sacred journey with grace. Amen
