On October 14, 2025, Susan Gay Smith Curtis was united with her lifelong sweetheart, Tom, as well as many friends and family who have preceded her in death. What a reunion it must have been.

Susan was born to Gerald and Olive Smith on November 23, 1936, in Washington, D.C. Her family moved from Washington to Los Angeles and finally to Salt Lake City. Susan graduated from East High and then attended the University of Utah.

Susan and Tom began their lives together in 1957, when they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. Their family quickly grew to five when they added Kyle, Geri, and Kevin to the fold. In 1967, they moved their young family to Ogden, where they spent 30 years making friends and memories that will last forever.

Along with being a great mom, wife, and homemaker, Susan spent several years as an interior decorator for Madsen Furniture and then in management at Weinstock's department store. She also spent several years serving in the Junior League of Ogden.

Susan was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A deep and abiding faith in Jesus Christ fueled her life of service. In her 89 years, she served in Primary, Young Women, and Relief Society. She also spent several years as a service missionary in the Conference Center and the Joseph Smith Building.

Susan loved sports, and she could talk football and basketball trivia with the best of them. Other than the athletes, her favorite celebrities were Pat McAfee, Stephen A. Smith, and Dan Patrick. Her grandkids would always joke that she could have hosted her own “sports talk” radio show or podcast.

Susan lived a life of love and kindness, and she’ll be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Susan is survived by her two brothers, Gerald (Chip) Smith Jr. and his wife Carol, Craig Smith and his wife Tami, three children and their spouses, Kyle (Barbara), Geri Kelley (Chad), and Kevin (Amy). Seven grandchildren and their spouses also survive her: Hunter (Megan), Mitchell (Maile), Tanner (Olivia), Preston (Katie), Brooke Cook (Jake), Courtney Anderson (Josh), and Sam (Madi), along with 24 1/2 great-grandchildren.

There will be a viewing to celebrate Sue on Monday October 20 from 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm at Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 East 1300 South, Salt Lake City, Utah 84108. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday October 21 at 11am at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah 84111. Interment will be at the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
