Susan Kathleen Whiting (Miller), 74, of San Jose, passed away peacefully surrounded by her husband and children at Stanford Hospital in Palo Alto, California on November 5, 2022, after a battle with cancer.

Born March 28, 1948, in Los Angeles, California, Susie was the daughter of the late Cecil Jackson Miller and Virginia Frances Young. She was the younger sister of the late Sharon Jensen and Barbara Kearns (Tom) of Bellevue, WA. She moved with her family to San Jose when she was nine years old, later graduating from Willow Glen High School. Sue attended Brigham Young University where she earned a degree in nursing. She married Stephen Lauritzen in 1972 and was blessed with four children whom she cherished. After a divorce from Stephen, she found and married the love of her life, Jay Whiting, in 1994. They spent the next 28 years together.

Sue became a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when she was 16 years old and remained faithful her whole life. She loved Jesus Christ and was one of His devoted disciples. Her life was dedicated to service in her professional career as a nurse for over 50 years as well as in her personal life. She was happiest when she was serving others. She loved preparing food for people, visiting the sick and elderly, and lending a listening ear or helping hand to all around her. She had a huge heart and treated everyone with kindness.

Sue loved her family. She had a way of making each of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren feel special and so loved. She enjoyed spending time with her family at the beach, while camping, on vacation, and at family dinners and celebrations. She had a beautiful smile that could light up any room and a contagious laugh that lightened hearts. Sue exemplified selflessness, compassion, humility, and Christlike love throughout her life. We will forever be thankful for her example and for the great impact she had on the lives of so many.

Sue is preceded in death by her parents and sister Sharon. She is survived by her husband, Jay Whiting; her four children, Kristi Payne (Lloyd) of Modesto, CA; Brad Lauritzen (Anahi) of Brentwood, CA; Karen Kempton (Matthew) of Gilbert, AZ; and Bryce Lauritzen (Chareen) of Lincoln, CA; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister Barbara; many extended family members; and countless beloved friends.

A celebration of Susan's life will be held on Friday, November 11, 2022, at 4 pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 3110 Cropley Avenue in San Jose, CA.
