Vance Lloyd Allred, son of Rulon Clark Allred and Myrtle Hoff Lloyd died at age 69 on June 22, 2021 of renal failure. He was born November 5, 1951 in Salt Lake City, UT.

Vance was an educator for 30 years, 23 of which were at Alta High School. He often said “I have had the most wonderful life. I was blessed to be a teacher.” Sunday nights during his teaching career he regularly would say “I get to go teach tomorrow!” He touched thousands of lives through his career and his membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Most important to him, though, was family. He is survived by many siblings and loved ones in his Allred family. He was so grateful to be part of his wife’s family. He always adored the Ripplinger, Mosier and Hilton families and appreciated that they enveloped him with love and acceptance. “They always treated me as one of their own.”

He felt his greatest legacy was his children. He took great pride and joy in watching them all create families and fulfill their potential. Most of all, he taught them by example how to love unconditionally.

He is survived by eight children: Raphael Allred Seaton, Vanessa Allred Ermer, Marilynn Hennessy Pawar, Tara Lynn Allred Greene, David Hennessy, Court Allred, Brooke Hennessy Fitzgerald and Lance Allred.

He was the proud grandfather of ten grandchildren: Ryan Jessica Seaton, Liam Jon Greene, Levi Joseph Seaton, Alishya Margaret Pawar, Sylvie Jubilee Seaton, Emma Jane Fitzgerald, Edmund Beckstead Greene, Simon Brett Allred, James Peter Fitzgerald, and Caleb John Cristos Hennessy.
He is also survived by his wife.

He began his lifelong romantic love affair with Tana Lynn Mosier Allred 50 years ago. He repeatedly said, “I already know what Heaven will be like because I have been married to Tana."

Condolences may be sent to 765 East Red Maple Road, Salt Lake City UT 84106 or on the Larkin Mortuary website. Donations to the homeless shelter can be made in lieu of flowers or contributions using this link here: https://jobs.utah.gov/htf/

His memorial service will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, July 10, 2021 in the LDS chapel at 951 East 3825 South, Salt Lake City, Utah. The family will be on the premises at 12 PM.
Cheerful colored clothes are welcome at the memorial to help celebrate his life.

Mr. Allred was the best teacher I've ever had, I'm so grateful that i had the chance to learn from him. I have no doubt that he influenced my life in a positive and tangible way by helping me learn to think critically and craft simple, effective arguments. He will be missed.

To Mr. Allred's family--I was a student in Mr. Allred's history classes twenty years ago, and he was one of my all-time favorite teachers. What a wonderful person who impacted so many students through the years! He was always so exuberant and kind, and his passion for history and stories made a huge difference in my life.
Deepest sympathies and condolences. All the best, Kelley Marsden

Many years ago, Mr. Allred was my history teacher. I remember how exciting history became because of him and I enjoyed learning, especially since we watched the edited version 'Last of the Mohicans at the end of the year. (That makes me smile).
I also remember him telling us the story of why his son was born deaf. I sensed he was very frustrated with the doctors, but I also sensed he had forgiven them and was trying to make the best of the situation.
A wonderful example to a 16 year old and I am grateful he impacted my life so positively.

I knew Vance from my childhood in Montana. I was a good friend to his daughter Tara. We played barbies and house in the woods. I spent hours at their house watching movies and very much liked being around his family. He is definitely going to be missed and Heaven gained a very special spirit.

I was one of Mr. Allred’s many students at Alta High. He was an extraordinary teacher. He challenged his students to think critically about historical and current events—a skill that has proven invaluable throughout my life. I am grateful for the passion and effort he put into his profession as a teacher. My condolences to his family and friends.

I was also a student in Mr. Allred's class many years ago. It was the first year we had AP world history. He was so enthusiastic and caring and made class an enjoyable place of learning. He had a way of making history come alive. He also had the best stories from his personal life. My personal favorites were the story about him pretending to be Helen Keller Keller and walking with his eyes closed across the driveway and the infamous barrel story. He was a great story teller. I'm grateful to have had him for a teacher.

- Katy Halliday

I had Mr. Allred for history back in 1998-1999. He was a great teacher. I remember his stories the most. They were always engaging and funny. I don’t remember a lot of the content of that class, except having to write essays, but I remember how proud he was of his family. He would often talk about his wife with pride and love. I also remember how proud he was of his daughters and their education. He was a good man and I am so sorry for your loss.

Sabine and I extend our heartfelt sympathy on the loss of your devoted husband and father. We remember fondly the many years we were neighbors on 13th East, and how much he admired and spoke so glowingly of his wife and family. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. As old age inevitably creeps, or should I say, gallops forward for all of us, it is good to remember the many kind folks we have encountered along the way. We count both of you as blessings in our lives. Love, Nick and Sabine Gold

I am sad to hear about the passing of a favorite high school teacher tonight. Mr. Allred, thank you for your time and talents teaching us at Alta High School. Words can’t express what a painful loss this is. Thanks for imbuing me with a love for history, the Scarlet Pimpernel, and the power of storytelling.

One of my favorite memories was when I told him I had just been nominated by my peers as “Most Likely to Work at Disneyland” and he said that wasn’t right, because “Most Likely to Be In Charge of Disneyland” was more accurate! 😂

He was an inspiration and helped me reach for more than just marriage and babies—Not only do I have a great husband and 3 kids, but I also have a great career and 1 1/2 Masters Degrees. I could not, and would not, have done it without a supportive family and supportive teachers, like Mr. Allred, encouraging me to reach higher. Thank you, Mr. Allred! Sending prayers to your family and looking forward to being in your class on the other side ❤️

To the Allred Family,

Mr. Allred was my History teacher when I was a student at Alta. He was one of the most impressionable and influential professors I had. In fact, just this week I was reviewing some old notes I took in his class over 15 years ago when going through some boxes. He was an incredible influence on me to push myself and utilize my time wisely. I always appreciated my time in his class. I also loved his stories from his youth and those he shared about his children, he loved his children so much. I remember him taking time during class to tell us stories about them. He was fun and entertaining and the energy he brought to the class helped ideas stick. I’ll always remember him. He left a legacy as an educator.

Sincerely,

Jeffrey Swenson

Vance and I taught in the history department for 23 years together at Alta High School and he was an amazing teacher and wonderful friend. I was so sad to hear of his passing and your loss. Since he taaught AP European to sophomores and the next year I taught AP US History to juniors, we had many of the same students. They loved him as a teacher and admired him as a person. And they always came to my class well prepared. Please know ho much your husband meant to the entire Alta community.

- Donald E Ward

I worked with Vance for many years at Alta High School. We loved hearing his stories. He had a wonderful smile and a love for the Alta Students. He will be missed.

- Cindy Palmer

Mr. Allred was one of my AP History teachers. He was, to say the least, a phenomenon. I was sorry to read of his passing, and am grateful to him for helping foster a love of academia. Thank you to his family for sharing him with us at Alta!

- Whitney Spurrier Olsen

Vance was my favorite teacher of all time! He really did make history come alive. His stories were so incredibly interesting! He was such an inspiring person and was able to keep everyone interested in what he was saying (no easy task with high schoolers!) He glowed with kindness! Once I called a Lyft and I hate Lyfts ! The small talk the not knowing what weirdo you will get… but I was getting off my nursing shift and Vance was my driver! I was able to tell him how much I loved his class and how much I loved his stories. I was so shy in high school I never really told him how much his class meant to me but I was able to get the chance as an adult. He was so special and I’m so grateful to have known him.
