Born 9 November 1937 in Salt Lake City to Victor and Lois Brown. Died July 1, 2024.
Mareen LaVon Holdaway and I met in Australia while we served missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We were sealed on 26 May 1960, in the Salt Lake Temple and sought to be disciples of Jesus Christ throughout our life together. She unfailingly supported me in earning degrees that enabled me to become a social worker and give community service. She also graciously supported me in challenging church callings.
Those of our family who survive or preceded me in death include:
Mareen, my true friend and exemplar of faith, courage and love.
Our beloved children Hugh and Wavia, Kathleen, Eva and Brad, Melinda, Daniel and Lori, Nathan, and Delbert.
Our delightful 25 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and our 2 Great-great-granddaughters.
I hope our children and all of our grandchildren will live by the light of promises and guidance as in Genesis 17:7; the Savior’s perfect love as in John 3:14-17 and give service, as in Doctrine and Covenants 138:47-48.
My exceptional siblings are Gary and Jan (deceased), and Josie; Joanne (deceased) and Steven; Patricia and Larry; and Steven and Peggy (deceased).

We are so sad for your loss. Vic was a great example to us and we love him and your family. We enjoyed very much our association with him! He is a great man!
He was a true example of love and a light to all he met. Rest in peace, Patriarch Brown.
Mareen and Brown family we were saddened to see your father has passed. We think of your family often. We have a great love for your family. Our deepest condolences to you.

The dry humor, quick wit, the intellectual brightness and ability to say things so plainly and so meaningfully that you "felt" it was true; these are just some of the attributes that Victor Brown Jr. brought to light for our family. How do you say "so long" or "until we meet again" to someone who did shine a pathway into my life as well as those of my family when difficulty and struggle were experienced. For my mother, a hymn would come to mind when she thought of Jim Warner and Victor Brown in her time of need. She felt those two men personified the Lord's extended reach to her in these words:
"“Fear not, I am with thee, O be not dismayed,
For I am thy God, and will still give thee aid;
I’ll strengthen thee, help thee, and cause thee to stand,
Upheld by My righteous, omnipotent hand.”
It is weighty indeed to feel the loss of a last conversation or a humorous way to look at the irony of something troublesome. I've not experienced loss so profoundly as the time he helped our family and we rose from that experience stronger than before. Still, it weighs on my heart how the multitude of his family will feel his loss at this time. Please know, with all the hope and faith a heart can hold that we as a family wish healing and the clear and quick recollection of those memories having been shared with him.
Our heartfelt love and condolences to the entire Brown family. We love your mom and dad, and will be here to love and serve your mom always.

Mareen, even though we've never met you personally, we feel we know you through knowing Vic. Such a wonderful Churchman and leader invariably has a wonderful and inspiring woman at his side. We salute you for helping Vic to do all he did for so many, and for so long. While we could share many precious memories of him, this is our favorite: When we were "starving graduate students" with four kids at BYU in 1976, our neighbor Terry Warner put in a good word for us with Vic when Vic was director of the Values Institute. True to BYU protocol, Ann accompanied me to the interview (for a graduate assistantship). When the interview concluded and we nervously awaited Vic's decision, he pretended to ponder, then half-smiling announced, "Brother Lauritsen, I'm going to hire you, but it's not on YOUR merits,; it's on your wife's. It's obvious you married above yourself." With that, he smiled broadly and welcomed me aboard. That assistantship, along with Vic's generous supervision over the next two years, opened the way for the Lauritsens to not only survive financially and academically, but it paid for a 300-page dissertation that the rival departments of Psychology and Family Therapy both proudly claimed. Vic's name (and his intervention on our behalf) is proudly listed on the Acknowledgements page. His memory and blessings on the Lauritsen family--and your unseen part in it---will live on forever. Thank you again.

I am eternally grateful that I was permitted to associate with such a great man and disciple of Jesus Christ. He Blessed my life in so many ways and at some of my greatest times of need. He always answered my phone call and was never too busy to talk to me. He stood by me when I felt that everyone else that I loved had left me behind. Thank you, President Brown, for being the kind of true disciple that could reach down and help pick up the one….
It was a joy to meet the Brown family - Victor, Mareen and family. I could work briefly in home health with Vic and I'm grateful to have met you. Thank you again for your great examples of faith, perseverance, kindness and many other Christlike attributes.
