Holladay, UT—Whit’s life journey here on earth ended Dec 28, 2024. Whit was born April 8,1982 in Salt Lake City, UT to Scott Dail Ogden and Karen Joy Strout. He was 42 years old. He attended Howard R. Driggs Elementary, Olympus Jr. High and graduated from Olympus High School in 2000. He also attended Utah Valley University.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout at the tender age of 13! He served an LDS mission in the New York, New York South mission. Scriptures and Come Follow Me were often found opened when visiting Whit.
Whit entered this world with an infectious smile and bright light that he shared with all who knew him. He loved to laugh and joke, always making others around him feel happier. Whit was a handsome, charismatic, fun and tender-hearted boy. He was naturally gifted in many sports. He loved basketball, football and baseball. He was a talented golfer with a beautiful swing. He even scored a hole in one at Bonneville golf course when he was just 16 on the 17th hole. Whit cherished the time with his dad on the greens, they played amazing courses all over the world. Whit loved a bluebird powder packed day at Snowbird with his brother or friends. He was a dare devil and famous for his tricks! Summertime for Whit was spent golfing, fishing, camping, boogie boarding and body surfing. His most treasured memories are those on the lake with his nieces and nephews. He taught many of them how to wakeboard and water ski. He was King of the tube! He loved goofing around and quoting his favorite comedian Chris Farley. He was the world’s best “FUNCLE”
Whit’s work ethic started at a young age. Paper routes, mowing lawns, valeting cars and being a cart attendant at the Country Club. These shaped him to become a very successful
salesman at the family business Cargo Link International. His charismatic personality, tenacity and downright grit made him an unstoppable force.
Whit always had a tender spot in his heart for his mom. Their relationship was sweet and devoted. He was a self-proclaimed “Mama’s Boy” and wore the title proudly.
Our hearts are broken but we find peace knowing he is finally able to rest. The Heavenly Father welcomed him with open arms and the healing balm he so desperately needed from the trials of his earthly life. Heavenly Father will take him by the hand and help him in his journey to progress and grow in the spirit world. We know that the light of his spirit will continue to uplift those around him. We will sorely miss Whit’s larger than life spirit but look forward to seeing his beautiful smile again. Rest Easy Whit, watch over us, until the glorious day that we will see you and you will say “Is there anything I can do for ya?” It’s not goodbye, it’s see you later.
Whit is survived by his unconditional parents, a brother and two sisters. Matt Ogden, SLC, UT Nate and Emily Brockbank, Holladay, UT, Bo and Lindsay Harding, SLC, UT. Karen and Scott,
After seeing you at the viewing Sunday, I realized I remembered meeting both of you at Parent teacher conferences and realizing that I had Whit in my Science class at Olympus High back in the late 90's. Whit was the kind of student that, for a teacher, you have to put on the stern, strict act for, but as a normal person, you can't help but love. Always easy going and joyful, just easy to love. But as a teacher, you can't show it. Then, that same year, of all places, I ran into Whit in the crowded foyer of Rice-Eccles stadium at a Ute Football game.He greeted me with unbridled joy, as if I was a long lost friend. No awkwardness of running into your teacher outside of school. I was usually shy in these situations, but Whit would have none of it. He came up behind me and with a big bear hug, lifted me off the ground and twirled me around a few times, right there in the middle of the crowd. Like one of his friends. Once I realized he wasn't mad at me for being his science teacher, I realized it was a strong embrace of pure joy and affection. For his science teacher! Young, strong, and simply happy for this chance meeting. That's a memory I carry to this day. I'm glad I remembered 27 years later. I was the lucky one. Weren't we all. That's how I'll remember Whit.
God bless you Whit, and Karen and Scott.
