William (Bill) Vaughn Wimmer

1936 ~ 2022

William (Bill) Vaughn Wimmer, age 85, beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and brother passed away on April 3, 2022 at his Chateau Brickyard care center in Salt lake City, Utah. He was born in Salt Lake City on May 4, 1936 to Vaughn Junius Wimmer and Gwendolyn White Wimmer. He met his sweetheart wife at Olympus High School was married in the Salt Lake Temple. He had a wonderful marriage of 66 years. He built his home on the White Family Farm in the East Millcreek area. Bill was a wonderful father to his two children, Shelley and Michael and selfless companion and caregiver to his beloved wife Joan. He treasured his relationship to his special great grandsons T.J. and Jaxson. He was always there to help anyone with 110% of himself. He joined the Air Force in 1954, he served for 9-years as a guard for the 151st Air Base in Utah, earning the rank of Staff Sargent and was awarded the Sharpshooter Ribbon. He was proud to keep the base safe During the Cubin Missile Crysis.

Bill was a hard worker and dedicated employee. After his military service, he worked for Walk-Over Shoes, Hi-Land dairy, Distinctive Catering, and was a member of the Western General Dairies Teamsters Union. He eventually started his own “Best Buy Rental” company that sold tables, chairs and wedding decorations. In 1999 he sold that business and went to work for the UTA as a Paratransit Bus Driver where he earned his Million Mile Driving Award without an accident. He then transferred to work as a Frontrunner Train Host and walked the athletes to their destinations during the 2002 Winter Olympic Games.

A devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, He served as Emergency Preparedness officer of his LDS ward and the local community. Bill loved the Scouting program and volunteered his time a BSA Cubmaster for 25 years. His pack was invited to lead the flag ceremony for President Ronald Regan when he came to the Salt Palace. It was an honor to be close to the President. For his years of dedicated service, Bill was awarded the District Award of Merit from the White Buffalo District.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Vaughn and Gwen Wimmer and his daughter, Shelley Wimmer, of Salt Lake City, Utah.
Bill is survived by his wife Joan, his son Michael (Mary) Wimmer, his granddaughter, Sara (Tyson) Haley, and his great grandsons T.J. and Jaxson, as well as his sister Carol (Lee) Howard and his brothers Jay (Sally) Wimmer and Doug (Pauline) Wimmer

Indoor Graveside services with an open microphone will be held at Larkin Mortuary 1950 E 10600 S, Sandy, Utah. Thursday April 7th starting at 1 pm followed by military honors at the Gravesite.

We were honored to be able to know and spend time with grandpa. He. Was so kind and gentle to all those around him, we will remember him with love. Our prayers are with grandma and all the family. He is now safe in the arms of Jesus.
