Carol Corbett Macfarlane

1932 ~ 2017

Carol Corbett Macfarlane, passed away peacefully at home on July 7, 2017, from the effects of lymphoma. Carol was born on December 10, 1932 to Mack Colvin Corbett and Grace Perschon Corbett in Salt Lake City. Aptly named for her December birth, Carol was a much-loved baby with big brown eyes and a beautiful smile. Carol had a warm, fun-loving, spunky personality with a contagious laugh. She made lifelong friends through her years at Uintah, Emerson and Webster Elementary Schools, Roosevelt Junior High and East High School. At the age of 15, Carol met and fell in love with James Langton Macfarlane. Carol attended the University of Utah and enjoyed her associations in the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She continued those friendships through monthly lunches with the "college girls".

Jim and Carol were married on June 25, 1953, and this was the beginning of a lifetime love story. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on March 16, 1966. She was a loving, supportive wife to Jim, as well as his greatest asset, as he served in Church responsibilities, community affairs and University of Utah assignments. Carol was a dedicated mother to her children, Steven, Ann, David and Jane. She described being a Grandma and Great-Grandma as "sublime" and supported her "babies" in sporting events, dance concerts and Halloween parades.

Carol's greatest loves were Jim, her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and the many special friends she made throughout her life. Her happiest times were spent in holiday celebrations with family, laughing with grandchildren and greats, and any occasion shared with her sweetheart, Jim. She was a strong advocate for education and encouraged each child and grandchild to get a college degree. Carol was a patient listener and gave practical, wise counsel. She had a love for all people, particularly children. Carol had a deep testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and served in many Church positions including Sunday School Coordinator, Youth Sunday School teacher while in her late 70's and Relief Society President. She was also a beloved mission mother to missionaries in the Washington-Seattle Mission 1990-1993.

We will miss Carol greatly, but plan to remember her advice of "kites rise highest against the wind" and just "bob in the water" until we see her again. We love you Carol, Mom and Grandma Carol!

Carol is survived by her husband, Jim, children: Steven (Amy) Macfarlane, Ann (Scott) Jensen, David (Tami) Macfarlane and Jane (Des) Barker, daughter-in-law, Janie Y. Macfarlane, siblings: Don (Linda) Corbett, Irene (Steven) Bergstedt, and Paul Corbett, in-laws: Grant (Shirley) Macfarlane and Richard (Karen) Macfarlane, 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren
