When a death occurs

What should I do when a death occurs?

Call Larkin at (801) 363-5781 any time, day or night. We’ll guide you through the immediate steps and, when you’re ready, bring your loved one into our care. There’s no need to rush any decisions — our first job is simply to take the weight off your shoulders.

What happens after I call Larkin?

We bring your loved one into our care, then schedule an arrangement meeting at a time that works for your family. Together we walk through the options for the service, and we handle the paperwork, permits, and coordination on your behalf.

Can you help if my loved one passed away out of state or abroad?

Yes. We regularly coordinate the transfer of loved ones from other states and from overseas, and we manage the logistics so your family doesn’t have to.

Planning a service

What’s the difference between a funeral and a memorial service?

A funeral service is held with your loved one present, while a memorial service takes place after burial or cremation. Both can be deeply personal and meaningful — we’ll help you choose what feels right for your family.

Can we personalize the service?

Absolutely. Every service we create is tailored to the life it honors — music, video tributes, readings, cultural and faith traditions, reception venues, and the personal touches that reflect who your loved one was. Ask us about our celebration of life venues.

Do you serve all faiths and traditions?

Yes. Larkin serves families of every religion, creed, and belief. Our staff includes bilingual members and members experienced in a wide range of faith and cultural traditions, so your loved one’s service can be carried out exactly as it should be. Learn more about funerals for every faith and tradition.

Cremation & burial

Do you offer cremation?

Yes. Larkin operates its own crematory, and cremation can be arranged with or without a viewing or service. Many families choose cremation together with a meaningful gathering or celebration of life. See our cremation services.

Can we still have a viewing or service if we choose cremation?

Yes. Cremation and a traditional service aren’t either-or. You can hold a viewing, a funeral, or a celebration of life and then proceed with cremation — the choice is entirely yours.

Costs & payment

How much does a funeral cost?

The cost depends on the choices a family makes — the type of service, merchandise, and any cemetery or cremation arrangements. We provide a clear, itemized price list and review every option with you, with no pressure. Please call us at (801) 363-5781 for current pricing.

Do you offer payment options or the ability to pay in advance?

Yes. Our pre-planning program lets you arrange and pay for services in advance, and we can discuss payment options for families facing an immediate need. Pre-arranging spares your family difficult decisions later.

Can insurance or veterans benefits help cover costs?

Often, yes. We work with funeral insurance and pre-need policies, and we help eligible veterans’ families access military benefits such as a burial flag, honors, and a government headstone or marker. We handle the applications for you.

Planning ahead

What is pre-planning, and why would I do it?

Pre-planning means recording your wishes — and optionally pre-paying — in advance. It relieves your family of difficult decisions during a painful time and ensures your wishes are honored. We make the process simple and unhurried. Start with planning ahead.
