(801) 363-5781

Losing someone you love is overwhelming, and it's hard to know what to do first. This simple checklist walks you through the immediate steps. Take them one at a time — and know that the moment you call Larkin Mortuary, we take much of this weight off your shoulders.

  1. Obtain a legal pronouncement of death

If your loved one was under hospice care or in a hospital or care facility, the staff will handle this. If the death was unexpected or occurred at home without hospice, call 911.

  2. Call Larkin Mortuary — any time

Call (801) 363-5781 day or night. We will answer your questions and arrange to bring your loved one into our care, wherever they are.

  3. Notify close family and friends

Reach out to immediate family and a few close friends who can support you and help share the news with others.

  4. Gather important information

We'll need details for the arrangements and death certificate — full legal name, date and place of birth, and any veteran or insurance information. Don't worry if you don't have everything; we'll help.

  5. Meet with us to make arrangements

We'll sit down with you — in person or remotely — to plan a service that truly honors your loved one, at your pace and within your budget.

We'll take it from here

From the first phone call onward, our caring team handles the details — transportation, permits, paperwork, and the planning of a meaningful service — so you can focus on your family and on grieving. For nearly 140 years, that's exactly what Larkin has done for Utah families.
