Gordon Winegar Bennett

1931 ~ 2018

Gordon Winegar Bennett passed away May 26, 2018 after a long struggle with Parkinson's Disease. Gordon was born June 22, 1931 to Horace and LaRue Winegar Bennett. Gordon married Marilyn Edginton on February 19, 1951, they were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple.

Gordon joined the Air Force with several buddies and served in the Military Police from 1951-1953 in New Mexico.

Gordon was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved the Lord and the gospel. He was a great leader and influenced many people in the church with his diligence and testimony.

Gordon built a successful business in the medical field. With new regulations requiring compliance with modernized safety and care standards, he became a leader in helping facilities throughout the Intermountain West comply. He helped rebuild and remodel many nursing homes throughout the West.

When South Davis Community Hospital, Board of Directors determined the need for remodeling Bountiful Hospital into a nursing facility they reached out to Gordon for advice and direction. As the project grew in scope, the Board of Directors realized that Gordon's experience and leadership would be invaluable to the realization of the facility. He became the Administrator there and spearheaded a modernization program which made South Davis Community Hospital one of the premier health care facilities in Utah and one of the first Sub-Acute Hospital's in the Western United States. SDCH grew into a campus including; The Inn at Barton Creek Assisted Living, Orchard Cove Rehabilitation and Alzheimer\s Facility, Home Health, and Hospice Care. These were all part of Gordon's vision and SDCH became an important medical center touching the lives of many people throughout the West. He served as Administrator there for over 30 years.

Gordon loved hunting and fishing and was a crack shot with a rifle. He also loved to golf and travel with his wife and family.

Gordon is survived by his beloved wife Marilyn Edginton Bennett; daughter Shirley (Ralf) Czerny; son Richard G. Bennett, 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; brother Glen (Norma) Bennett; and sister-in-law Gunnie Lou Bennett. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Wayne Bennett; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services honoring Gordon will be held on Friday, June 1st at 11:00 AM at the Willow Creek 7th Ward, 2115 Creek Way, Sandy. Friends may call on the family at the viewings on Thursday, May 31st from 6:00 -8:00 PM and again on Friday, June 1st from 10:00 to 10:45 AM, also at the church. Interment will be at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. Dimple Dell Rd. (10600 S.), Sandy.
