Ronald Lloyd Hammer

Ronald Lloyd Hammer of Salt Lake City, Utah passed away peacefully in his home after a battle with metastatic prostate cancer onThursday, January 25, 2018. Ron was born February 18, 1940 in Salt Lake City to Lloyd and Theora Pugmire Hammer. He graduated from South High School and was a University of Utah Alumni, where he served as an ASUU Student Body Officer and a proud lifelong member of Pi Kappa Alpha (Once a Pike, Always a Pike!). Ron married Judy Elkins on February 21, 1968 in the Salt Lake Temple. They were looking forward to celebrating 50 years of marriage this year.They were the proud parents of six children: Kristen, Chelle, Whitney, Colter, Logan, and Codye. Ron's passions in life revolved around family, music, cycling, fishing and spending time at the family cabin in Wildwood. Ron was well-known in the cycling community having competed in races across the state and representing Utah at national competitions. He served as President of the Pedali Bike Club for years. Music played a huge part of Ron's life. He shared his strong tenor voice in the Salt Lake Symphonic Choir and the Eleanor Kennard Chorale, along with the Canyon Rim Second Ward Choir. Ron had great faith and loved his church with all his heart.He was an active member of the LDS Church, having served in the Central German Mission as a young man, and later on a church service mission at the Palmer Court Branch with his sweetheart as his companion.

He is survived by his wife Judith Ann Elkins Hammer, six children, Kristen Newton (Steve), Chelle Brain (Chris), Whitney Hall (Craig), Colter Hammer (Abi), Logan Hammer (Mary) and Codye Robison (Matt) and three brothers, Gordon Hammer (Beth Ann), Doug Hammer (Karren) and David Hammer (Linda). He is also lovingly known as Bapa to 25 Ω grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Ron cherished lifelong friends who shared Study Groups and Dinner Groups. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to Elevation Hospice during the final weeks of his life.

The viewing will be heldon Sundayevening, January 28, 2018, from6-8 p.m. at the Canyon Rim Second Ward, 3000 South Grace Street (3100 East). Funeral services will be heldMonday, January 29, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at the Canyon Rim Second Ward. Friends may visit at the church from 9:30 ‚ 10:30 the morning of the funeral. Interment will be held at the Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery.
